Integrated Radar in ZL1??

Does anybody have an integrated radar detector in their ZL1?

If so, how well does it work? Can you post some pics? Is the integration worth the money?

you most likely need an installer to do it. IE car toys/best buy (or local buisiness) but Escort makes pretty much one of the top units around. and you can get them custom insalled to have "read points" all around your car for TRUE 360* detection and more range than a normal mounted one.

ESCORT 9500CI IS THE BEST I HAVE THEM IN ALL 3 OF MY VEHICLES. IT'S A JOB TO INSTALL BUT ANYONE WITH A LITTLE TALENT CAN DO IT. THE ZL 1 WAS TOUGH THE FRONT GRILL DOE'S NOT COME APART WITHOUT PULLING THE COMPLETE NOSE. I DID IT BY REMOVING THE HOOD LATCH AND WORKING DOWN THRU THE LATCH OPENING. WILL POST SOME PICS. THIS WEEK

Pics of radar detector. The sensors in the front are a little to tall to fit behind/between the louvers in the grill. You can hardly see them unless you are laying on the floor. there is one on each side and one buried in the middle on the bottom., one on top of rear plate. The inside attaches with 3m double face, comes with detector. The terminal box is small enough to fit next to the dash fuse panel under the cover. the back seat folds down to run the cable from the trunk ,under the seat and up the console to the dash. Not a really big job, just need to proceed SLOWLY to avoid mishaps.

Thanks for the pics.

Been trying to read as much as possible. Do you think the integrated install is worth the money?? $500 vs $1600 plus install fee???

my buddy has the 9500ix and loves it...just not too pumped on the windshield mount and exposed power wire.

How fast over the speed limit and how many times can you get caught to reach $1600? How many times can you get away with speeding without getting a ticket? Must factor in the insurance hike if traffic school isnt an option for the ticket.

I was considering the 9500 ci but nobody was able to provide much feedback on this forum. The cost was very high with install I think $3000 total (in canada) and I read quite a bit about the escort laser jammers being absolute garbage in terms of actually jamming guns.

The biggest kicker to stopping me looking for an integrated laser jammer was I was told by an ex police officer who now is now serving as legal council for people with traffic tickets that using a jammer could warrant the officer arresting you and placing a criminal charge against you for "obstructing a police officer" and that this charge would stand in court as I purposely obstructed his ability to read my speed. Which if you do want to get totally literal with everything makes 100% sense.

You didn't get much feedback on the forum because not many people own this system. I personally do have it, and installed it myself. The total cost was $1000... the price of the system. The jammer itself isn't garbage. While it isn't typically rated as the best available on the market, for some reason people feel like being ranked anything but #1 translates to being garbage. Mine has functioned just fine thus far, meaning no tickets to date. The install does take several hours, but is quite doable yourself. This system is not illegal in most states in the US. I'm not sure about Canada though.

I have a 9500ci in my ZL1. I also had it on my 2010 Camaro SS. All in all, I love the Escort Passport product line.

However...I recently got a speeding ticket and my detector didn't alert. My friend behind me had his detector alert.

When the Passport MAX came out, I purchased it and am running both devices. Sure enough, my 9500ci wasn't alerting, but the MAX worked like a charm. There are at least three times I picked up police running radar, but the 9500ci didn't alert once. (The MAX was going crazy)

Since the 9500ci is over 1 year old, it is no longer under warranty. That is $1500 down the drain. :-(

I don't blame Escort. Hardware fails. I will continue to buy from them.

However, I will stick with the windshield mount devices from now on.

Does Passport MAX work on with Laser or just with Radar? Sounds like you need a unit that works with both. What about Valentine? How does that compare with Escort?

The MAX has laser detection only.

In my area, laser jamming is illegal now, so the 9500ci's shifters have the potential to get you in trouble.

I have the passport 9500 in my ZL1 and have the display and controller mounted inside the center console. The alarms are audible and I will tell you I am the worst speed limit violator I have ever met, I don't speed in towns (I live in rural Oklahoma) but I always speed on the open roads unless the detector is going off. No tickets in the Camaro with about 2000 miles. Had the same system in my CTS-V and got 2 tickets one where I was running in a pack and though I heard the alert, thought I was safe in the pack, the cop decided to ticket the Caddy. Also got one where not a single car was on the road but me and the cop had a speed trap with the radar unit turned off until I was close then bam, my detector went nuts and I scrubbed about 30mph but still got a ticket. I beleve in the passport, it is a awesome system and mine have always worked.
