Question Engine shut off

I was driving down the road today in my car to take it in for an oil change I was half way there and the engine going down the road around 30 mph and the engine just shuts off I pull off the road and stopped put the car in park turned the key off then back on and the car started right back up. No check engine light came on during the entire time. Had service looked at it and found nothing. Any tips. I've not drivin my car for awhile because I work so much I get to drive it about once to twice a month.

Moving down the road that's not good at all, an electrical short somehow that caused a interruption of the cylinders firing through the coils most likely, would look to the distributor and coil on a old car. ON ours its all computerized ecm and bcm etc...... Have not had one of my 2ss ever stumble and stall, except for once after just starting it which is a way more normal occurrence for a auto, I would hope for it just being a brain fart....and only driving your car twice a month and its just being a v-6.........I would think you should drive it more often to help it keep its self in better running shape. especially if its out in the rain a lot.

A weak battery can cause a number of electrical issues. Also, a short somewhere or a bad ground can cause unusual issues to come up.

The alternator charges the battery to complete the electrical circuit and if you have enough voltage the car will not die will driving unless you have a break somewhere in that circuit. Has the car received electrical work? Is something like a sound system drawing more amps than the car is capable of producing? In my DD the harness in my distributor giving the distributor power had exposed wire and the butt connector had wiggled off over time which was causing my car to die will driving. Most cars now a days are DIS, if it does it again I'd look at the ignition system of the car before the battery

Had this happen in a mustang, but it didn't start back up. I needed a new alternator, battery died and wasn't getting charged. But yours did start back up, so I'm not sure

Have any rodent issues? I did have a sizeable rat in my garage chewing up boxes and flip flops. Finally caught him, but was concerned about it getting under my hood and chewing wires/hoses. Never got to that point though. Seeing as your car sits in the garage for extended periods, have a look under the hood and under the car. Just an idea.

Driving a friends old CRX a few years ago, I started the car to go home from work and it promptly died. Would not start nor did the lights work. Wouldn't jump start either. Ended up being a shorted cell in the battery. Like TheHorse13 mentioned, batteries can do weird things.

But if the battery is causing problem he couldn't start it back up. Do any accessories work right after this happens? For shits and giggles get your battery checked, check the cables for corrosion and tightness on the posts. Also check your ignition under the hood to see if eerythinvg is plugged in all the way
