Question Want To Dye My Stitches

I have a 2011 synergy green camaro 2SS (leather seats) and I want to color the stitches green. Has anyone with a green camaro done this? If so what would be a good pen to buy that is good quality and matches the color really good. I would rather not buy a whole box for $20 that I will never use and just buy a single. Maybe someone can put a link from amazon because I am going to order some stuff off there and would like to have that there too. It would look much better with green interior stitches.

Wal-Mart is your best friend for this.
The elmers painters pens are amazing for this. I did mine in red. I see 3 colors of green there though.

Can you post a pic of your car if it's already done? I'd like to see how it turned out

I dont have any pics of it, but if you follow this link:
https://www.google.com/search?q=cama...l%3B1024%3B768

You can see several that have been done.

I took my time and went back over a few spots after a couple weeks to make sure it was all covered. You can not tell the stitching is dyed. The nylon thread soaks up the color and makes it pop. The only advise I can give you is, do it in a garage to prevent any wind, and only do about 4 inches at a time and then wipe it. If you go too far and the paint dries you can get it off with some windex, but its a pain in the butt.

I have had this mod done for about 8 months now and it still looks perfect. The car is my daily driver.

Yes. Elmers makes 2 looking markers.
One has a black label and is just called PAINTERS and the other has the colorful label. But they are the same thing. The black label one has ELMERS in small letters in the edge.

I did my entire car with 1 pen and its not empty. It took me about 1.5 hours.

Can also go to any fabric/hobby store, and they have fabric markers. I used those over the Elmer's paint pens. Worked great, and used the same 4" then wipe method. Came out great. And they have different types of pen brush styles for the tough to reach spots

Why did you use them over the elmers brand? Are they better than elmers? And also what is the 4 inch method exactly. I know what it is kind of but need more explaining.

The 4 inch method means basically:
Put a liberal amount of paint marker on about 4 inches of the stitching and then wipe it clean. Then continue.

On the camaro, the back seat has stitching on the outsides and this stitching is not on leather, its on fabric. So for my back seat on the fabric stitching I also used the fabric pens. I had to do 3 "coats" with the fabric pen to get the red about the same color.
If you use a paint pen on the stitching in the back with fabric behind it, you will probably end up coloring the fabric as well if you use the paint marker. Its an easy wipe clean on leather though.

I felt safer using the fabric marker over the paint pens. Just cautious I guess

Did you ever find the color and decide on the method? I'll be doing mine this morning using the fabric pen method. Got pens from Michaels and will dying the stitching yellow.

I bought several yellow Sharpies and couldn't get the yellow I wanted which is why I tried the fabric pens. It took me a lot longer (about 5.5 hrs) and took 4 full pens just to do seats, headrests and door stitching. Haven't done shifter or steering wheel yet.
Glad I could read everyone experiences. That helped a lot.
You all inspired confidence. I'm happy with the results.
Thanks!

I bought a paint pen I will post a picture of it. It is a medium tip. Idk if that is too big? Also for the method do you wipe it with a wet cloth or dry? I tried my pen on a area in my car and it ones down pretty thick.
