Ss exhaust on v6?
This is my first post, wanted to know if it was possible to put a stock ss exhaust on a v6 and what are the benefits if any, oppose to getting an aftermarket v6 exhaust.

From the H-pipe back ("cat-back") you can replace with the V8 exhaust but there isn't much to gain, just a slightly deeper tone due to the fact that the V8 pipes are 2.5" diameter versus the V6's 2.25" - everything else is pretty well the same.
If you're after a different sound you'll want to go aftermarket/custom. I replaced my H-pipe with a "resonated X-pipe" by Magnaflow (part number 11386) which is basically a muffler in the form of an X-pipe, and then replaced everything after with 2.5" pipe (i.e. removed the resonators and mufflers), and it sounds pretty slick. A cheaper alternative (since you pay a decent amount for labour here) is an axle-back (i.e. aftermarket mufflers). If you're after a cat-back I recommend what I did. |

Hey man. So I actually did both (stupid, I know) & did the muffler delete minus the MagnaFlow & it had wayyy too much drone & rasp so I ended up throwing on a stock SS exhaust/mufflers & it sounded deeper, but way too quiet still. Read & watched videos of the X-Pipe/ muffler delete combo & got a good deal on an X-Pipe from someone on this site so installed it last night & it is absolutely night & day compared to just a muffler delete. Highly recommend the X-Pipe/MagnaFlow combo. (BTW I got the SS exhaust parts from someone on this site as well about to throw it out for free) I would say the labor/parts for the delete is worth it.

You wont ever get a deep tone out of the 6.....just not going to happen.
But whatever exhaust you go with, make sure you do the magnaflow 11386 x pipe.

These guys are right, I've messed around with my exhaust so much its not even funny. I can honestly say mine doesn't sound like a weedwacker or bumblebees.. it isn't high pitched as you would think a V6 would sound like, But it's not deep either. My goal was to have a decently loud exhuast without any rasp. I achieved that and couldn't be happier. https://youtu.be/TmK3VMZUAds
https://youtu.be/kCpGmMBunpk here's a couple of videos of my current setup. If I were you, I'd go with a magnaflow resonated X pipe, with 2.5 piping out the back to the exhuast tips

I think your setup Sounds fantastic! I currently have MRT v2, Magnaflow resonated x pipe, and I'm waiting for my ARH HFCs to arrive in the next week or two. I'm trying to figure out what your setup is, by your tag line I assume you have the MRT v1, Magnaflow x pipe, and rear cat delete. My question is if you still have the factory resonators, or did you replace those with the Magnaflow resonators? If not, did you put the Magnaflow resonators where the rear cat was? The reason I ask is I live in California and I don't want to delete my rear cat. Instead, I think the closest thing is the ARH HFCs. I plan on putting back on the factory pipes and cats every smog check, unfortunately. No way around the visual inspection here in California. Thanks. Did you get too much rasp when you deleted the resonator, and what setup did you have at that time?
I'm curious if the resonator delete brought on the rasp, or the cat delete? Or maybe you had no rasp, just curious why you deleted the factory resonator and added the Magnaflow one. Anyways, really like your sound and hoping to be close to that as well.

At the time I just had a magnaflow resonated x pipe and muffler delete. Wanted it louder and deleted the resonators. Didn't change much so I deleted the secondary cats. It did get louder but the tone was something that I did not like, so I ordered the MRT v1 axle back. Tone was great, but drone was a little to loud. Tried out different resonators and Added the magnaflow resonators since they sounded best with minimal drone. Everything is perfect now. Drone isn't as loud and got a better sound to the exhaust. I could have just added the stock resonators back instead of buying new ones but I feared they wouldn't change much.
