removing a/c unit questions..
i never use my air conditioner, even when it's like 100º i just roll the windows down as im used to working outside all day.. anyways, i can lose 48lbs removing all the components of the a/c unit.. but does anything have to be replaced when you do this?
A/C EVAPORATOR CORE ASSY. 13.4 A/C COMPRESSOR 13.2 A/C CONDENSER 6.4 A/C-HEAT BLOWER MOTOR ASSY 4.2 A/C LINES AND DUCTING 7.6 A/C FIREWALL COVER 3.6 it can't just be as easy as removing the stuff right? -_- would it be something i'd have to have a shop take care of?

I'm not sure on the Camaro but isn't the evaporator coil under/in the dash? If so i wonder how hard it would be to take out and worth it. Are you taking the whole a/c system out for racing?

I may be wrong but doesn't the defroster use the AC system as well? I would think living in Philly you would use this quite a bit in the winter.

Back in the day AC was an option, and my windows defrosted just fine... The car just has to be warmed up a lot more. Just sayin'

The evaporator probably only weighs a couple of pounds so this may be the whole box assembly(evaporator/ heater core/blower motor) You would need to add a idler without the compressor or change the belt. I would think you would be closer to about 20 pounds max of weight savings. And I never use AC much, but my wife requires it. LOL

Really bad idea IMO...unless you're going to race the car out and never plan on trading it in rather selling it on the side I wouldn't do it. Enjoy the AC man I used to work outside all day everyday and that's here in south Texas weather. Live a little you're driving a bad ass car. That gym joke is no joke I also (when working in the oil field outside) used to weigh 251 pounds and now weigh in at a steady 192. This of course only works if you are a heavier dude.

Just take the stuff in the engine compartment out (pump, bracket, belt, condensor, lines and dyrer). It's a pain to get the evaperator coil out - dash removal and possibly the windshield. This way, if you ever sell the car you can re-install the components easily.
Your defroster will work fine. I read somewhere that the AC is used with the defrost to dehumidify the air. |

AC takes moisture out of the air so it won't condense on the inside of the windows.
High heat and high fan settings will do the same but not as good in high humidity situations.
