oil filter adapter housing leak
I had the oil changed by the dealer 2 weeks ago on my 2011 Camaro LT2 RS Convertible. I noticed the other day that I had an oil leak. I checked the oil and the dipstick came up dry. No warning light where on. I got the car to the dealer and they told me I was 3 quarts low. They cleaned everything underneath and told me they couldn't find a leak. They drive it today, put it back on the lift and told me they need to replace the oil filter adapter housing.
My car has 33k miles on it and I am worried that there might have been some engine damage from driving it low on oil. What can I do to cover my ass if I have future engine issues? Last edited by groetman; 02-04-2014 at 01:48 PM. |

Have the dealer document what they did and get copies.

Common issue with the LLT engines. They are going to need to dig deeper to find the issue as I'm sure it's not the filter. Do a seach on LLT oil issues, you'll find a ton.

Yes. If they seen no leak what makes them thinks it the adaptor? If 3qts leaked from the housing that would be real obvious.

Definately learn about the comon oil issues with our LLT engines; timing chain issues, leaks around the front of the engine, & the mystery of completely dissappearing oil with no explaination as well as engine failures. Use full synthetiic oil, good oil filters, change oil every 3K mi minimally & check your oil level very frequently. Documment everything.
