Dealer installed remote start and Onstar app

I have a 2014 2LS. If I have the dealer install a remote start, can I use the OnStar app on my phone to start the car?

If you have factory remote start then yes you can. If you have an MT you will not be able to get remote start installed, only available with AT.

Ask the dealer , and if he says yes , you should ask for a demonstration before install
If it does work it's all good , if it doesn't , take it out at their expense

The dealer was looking into it but he doesn't work there anymore. I wish I had asked for a factory installed remote starter when I ordered the car but I didn't think to do that.
I live in an apartment building and the parking garage is on the opposite side of the building so an after market remote starter key fob wouldn't work, but if I could use the OnStar app then I'd be thrilled.

I've seen aftermarket units that do work , look at the section on this forum where they talk about that
It's on the ,,Electronics , stereos , alarms threads

No. Onstar App is tied to the car's VIN. If it wasn't built with the remote start feature then Onstar won't work.

i can barley stand at my front door and look at my camaro and lock the door locks my key fobs suck... but my wifes gmc can look her doors and start her car up at the back of the house...

now before anyone says about the auto start vs non auto start range..

my wifes car came without auto start and the key fobs range was just the same
we had the remote start put on at the dealer and was given the 4 key fobs with the car... all fobs have the same range... but the chevy camaro key fob range is not even close.. dont know why the big difference... and yes both of the camaro key fobs suck as far as distance equally... thumbs down to gm on this.. good thing they have a product in the gmc that is better one of the things gm can impove on the camraro

It must be an issue w/ your car then b/c mine works fantasticly. Upstairs, downstairs doesn't matter. Clearly, it's something w/ your receiver on your car b/c the range on the fob is 195' which is huge.
