Stolen Key

So my key was stolen at the gym the other day. I ordered a replacements off of eBay and had it cut and did the programming myself (took 5 seconds).

When programming the dash did not show any message or anything, but the key works fine!

My question is, is the stolen key still programmed to my car? Is there a way to check whether or not the key is registered using the DIC?

I just don't want to go back to the gym and have someone use the remote to find out what car it belongs to.

Thanks!

I had my spare key stolen from my house a couple of years ago. What you NEED to do is go to your dealer and have them change the transmitter signal. That way, if whoever stole your key tries to steal your car, they can open the car, but cannot start it because the transmit signal will be different

IF you take no other action, then YES, the stolen key WILL open and start your car.

40years hit the nail on the head......get back to your dealer as fast as you can.....OBVIOUSLY someone has designs on your car....and they KNOW where to find it.

Will be expensive, but you can have the dealer change everything on your car so the stolen key will not open anything or even register to your car. Bad thing is if he knows what car it goes to the key will still manually unlock the door.

DO THIS OP!!!!!!

This would have been the first thing I would have done. After calling the police and filling a report.

My car would not be living my sight until it was reprogrammed.

I had all 3 locks changed and with 2 new keys and fobs, the cost was right at $525.00.

Programming Transmitters to
the Vehicle

Only RKE transmitters programmed
to this vehicle will work. If a
transmitter is lost or stolen, a
replacement can be purchased and
programmed through your dealer.
When the replacement transmitter is
programmed to this vehicle, all
remaining transmitters must also be
reprogrammed. Any lost or stolen
transmitters will no longer work
once the new transmitter is
programmed.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm due for an oil change soon so i'll see what i can do at the dealer. Last time I called I was told that chevy hasn't released the ignition/door lock and keys combo for the 13's yet and if I ordered based on the vin I'd get the same one

I have also not returned to the gym with the camaro! Can't risk losing it! they also stole several other things that night from other people so I know it wasn't targeted directly at me!

At least this pushed me to finally get out of there and find another gym!

So according to blue angel, if you programmed your new key, your old keys need to be reprogrammed. Did your original 2nd key require reprogramming?

It doesn't de-program the old keys, I only got 1 key with my car when I bought it. When to the dealer and spent $65 for a new spare key and programmed it to the car.

Now it still has a total of 3 keys programmed, and the original the car came with still works.
