Brake Pads w/o Roller Skates
I have searched and emailed and can't find a definitive answer. I emailed a vendor and he said the Hawk brake pads will not eliminate the roller skates, and seemed to infer (ambiguous email) that the roller skates are not part of the pads. I've also seen a picture of GM replacement pads that definitely show the roller skates attached to the pads. Are there brake pads available for the front of the SS that will eliminate the roller skates?
Thanks, Jeff |

Yes, they are available. I can't say for sure, but I think the GM pad are the ONLY ones that actually have the roller skates. I think most (if not all) aftermarket pads do not have them.

Correct they are part of the pads. The early 10s didn't have roller skates and just weights on the calipers

Any negative side affects by going with pads that don't have the roller skates?

I haven't noticed anything different with pads without the skates.

So I've been told by a GM mechanic that the roller skates are for vibration due to the calliper, not the pad. That's why weights were on the calipers, not the pads. I'm thankful I have the weights and did not have to deal with these when getting my new rims. Also, I still put on Hawk HPS, they are just pads. I did it for less brake dust.

They are there to decrease vibration/noise, so one could guess that removing them would increase the amount of brake noise. But I haven't tried removing mine so this is just me thinking out loud.

I cut all the roller skates off our pads before I installed them look weird to me, a little squeaky every now and again but damn it stops better now with real brakes vs the stock v6 brakes

I have an early '10 and just had my calipers powder coated which removed the "roller skates", added dimpled/slotted rotors and HPS pads and have zero issues with a vibration. You can feel the slots, but it's like that with any car.

Good Evening all,
So I would use a model year 2010 or 2011 brembo brake pad part number to look up pads without roller skates? I want to use an 18" winter tire or a 17" if it'll fit.. |
