opinions please
Ok I have a 2010 L99 that I have finally decided to spend some money on some bolt-ons. Just ordered and intake that I will put on next week for starters. Now onto the next thing that I want some feedback on. I really hate how quiet the car is as most have said on here so these are the 2 options I am looking at: 1. Install a catback exhaust (thinking Flowmaster Outlaw) or 2. Install LT headers with hi-flow cats with the stock exhaust. Both of these would go along with a tune. I don't really run the car hard and I am not looking for big power gains. Just wondering since the cost is comparable if the headers and cats would make the car sound more aggressive with the stock exhaust??? On the other hand would a good exhaust be better than the HP gain of the headers??? So torn, someone give me some EDUCATED feedback please.
Thanks in advance, Josh |

1- An exhaust will give you NO HP gain.
2- An exhaust is just for sound 3- If you're just looking for improved sound the cheapest way is a muffler delete. Personally I do not like the sound of a muffler delete and went with a Corsa catback BUT I would not go the exhaust route again in the future and least not a catback and not to start, see 4 4- Go with LT/Cats. This will give you the best balance of sound and power. 5- If after the LT's you still want louder save some money and do an alxeback as the is really NO benefit to a cat back. 6- If you're look for just sound (no power) go with a Borla or Solo axleback. 7- If you change out just the exhaust and do not eliminate AFM, AFM does become much louder. |

Thanks nyrfan, I plan on getting a tune and eliminating the AFM either way I would go. Leaning more on the LT/Cats just hope it improves the sound. Not looking for too much, just want it sound like a V-8...know what I mean?

If youre just looking for sound and dont wanna spend much $$, do a muffler delete.

Thought about a muffler delete but wish I could hear one in person to see how it sounds.

I went with the Borla S-type axle-back first. But if were to do it again, I would go with the headers first, then put a comp cam or similar in it. The headers will make it louder for you. The exhaust will change the note whether its raspier or throatier.

If you go to Borla and Flowmaster webite they have 6 or more different combination of dyno runs, drive by's, and interior noise. That is what I did. All I was lucking for was a better sounding exhaust with out spending a fortune.

I just installed long tubes and high flow cats last thursday, with the rest of the exhaust stock.
Its louder at wot than I though it would be, I do like it. not crazy loud,. Its not much louder at idle or normal driving speeds than stock, to the point I am looking at adding SLP loudmouth 2 axle backs.

Thats a personel thing. I really liked what the Borlas sounded like and the Flowmasters the best. I ended up getting the Flowmasters.

You should do Lt's, HF cats. Great sound and performance gains. If you still want more then you could do an axle back system. Tune and AFM are also a must

I guess the real question is: will I notice a big difference with a tune and LT/cats?
