Transmission issues

My Camaro is a week old, it is an SS with the manual transmission. Since I got the car, I have noticed this whining clanking noise coming from the transmission. It seems that this noise is coming from the dash but you can actually feel it vibrating the shifter. It sounds like metal striking something, or something is loose. It also gets louder as you accelerate in 1st and 2nd gear, you can hear it in all gears however it is the worst in first and second. I also feel that the car is underpowered, that might be because the engine is not broken in, and the fuse pull has not been performed. Has anybody had any issues like this? I fear that when my dealer did a dealer trade for this car, they let a 19 year old employee transfer it, and he might have not known how to drive stick and messed something up...

Does it sound like a little rattle when shifting gears? My car's always had that, probably things just shifting a bit on the stock rubber tranny mounts. You can try switching to poly mounts to see if it tightens up the drivetrain slack. These are heavy cars, so there is going to be some drivetrain noise due to the heavy trannies rattling against the stock mushy mounts.

If I go super easy on the clutch to make the shifts buttery smooth, there won't be any of the rattling, but if I drive normally - and my normal driving does not result in perfectly crisp shifts to say the least, especially with this picky, tricky, long clutch - there is some light but noticeable rattle. The funny thing is if I really wind out the gears with more throttle, the TR6060 shifts the smoothest of all. Shifting at 2,500 rpms results in the roughest shifts!

No the noise comes when you accelerate, I have a habit of putting my hand on the shift knob even when not shifting so I can actually feel this noise vibrating the knob and when I slow down the vibration and noise slow down as well.

I bet sometimes your pushing clutch alittle too soon, yes I have felt it and I know that's what it is, my 67 chevelle will do do the same thing (neither is a daily driver)

No, this happens when I accelerate. No clutch, no gear change.

I noticed the same thing on a 2013 SS I drove. I mentioned it to the dealer and they said they'd look at it after I bought the car. I took the car to an independent Chevy mechanic and he advised me not to buy the car as he thought it might be a problem in the tranny. I took his advice and drove a 2013 1LE which has a different tranny. I had no such noise or vibration issues with the 1LE's tranny. I bought the 2SS/RS 1LE and never looked back.

I would think this is not normal. I have never had any noise out of mine. Same trans as yours. Looks like you will be taking it back to the dealer.

The transmission crossmember bolts seem to have flat edges and various chips in them. Why would this be on a brand new car?

3Black,

Sincere apologies to read of your transmission concerns. I understand that you're seeking thoughts and opinions, but send me a message if you want to take it a step further and get an official diagnosis. I will then reach out to a Customer Experience Manager at your desired dealer for additional assistance in these matters. If not, feel free to PM me your VIN so I may check my resources for any related field actions.

Sincerely,

William R.

I took it in, they said it was normal and they drove other Camaros and supposedly they also made the same noise. They were hesitant to drive me in them so now I'm planning to go to a different dealer. Keep me posted if they find the issue in your car.

just returned from dealership gave me the same exact answer you were given. They say it's normal for that car.

I would ask to drive a different Camaro on the lot that has the same power train to see if that one makes the same noise you are referring to. If it doesn't then ask them why yours does.
