Exclamation Temp controls

I'm ... confused.

Going back as far as the early 90's in my Yukon, and as recent as my '99 Cadillac STS, I've had an actual thermostat. I set it to 72*, and forget it. One was a semi-cheap truck, the other a high dollar luxo-box.

Why don't we have such a thing?!?!

The ECM/BCM is more than capable of handling the chore of "the engine is cold, so don't turn on the fan yet, but crank the damper door to max heat" and so on and so on. The logic for it's been re-done to death. How hard would it be to retrofit something from ... something ... and let us have that minor luxury? Car certainly wasn't cheap. Why not even have it as a factory option?

Gen5DIY guys? Ideas?

Been searching "Can bus climate control".

Amazed at how many hits... on guys controlling the climate... in their bus.
Sigh....

Wondering if this might be easier to tackle from the perspective of a stand alone controller that could do ambient temp sensing, then piggy back the signals onto the bus to control the basics of the damper door and fan levels, based on some basic inputs off the existing sensors.

Might not be as fancy - but could still do the job.

some one could make a aftermarket kit. would be simple with a radio kit such as the Scosche. I think GMs reason was it would cost to much on a $40k car with heated seats, HUD, and backup camera and sensors. But some how it is available in everything else.

Full 1LE suspension, with BMR adjustable sway bars and links, GM aluminum cradle bushings, Hurst shifter with lighter reverse spring, TWM shifter knob, Tick level 1 transmission. I should have bought a ZL1

It's available as an option in some other vehicles, but it's not standard.

And each of these "little" things that someone wants has a dollar value. By the time they were all added, we wouldn't be driving $40k cars.

Still think it'd be a nice option to add on. And even if there had to be a 'select switch' to go from the dash controls to an auto (might be bus signal conflicts), it shouldn't be too hard.

I guess the biggest issue would be wether the BCM would be looking for the commands coming down the stream or not. If not.... ummmm.... use an arduino to watch the ambient temp, do the logic, then spoof the signals to control the damper door and fan speed? Not the prettiest solution.

i didnt say standard but ya everything adds up. But really what else is there to add? Id trade the heated seats in a car that comes with tires that they even say shouldnt be used in freezing temps. I know the guys in the south like them when it gets cold for them.

I completely agree with this. I've been saying it since I purchased my 2011. I'm very surprised that by the 5th year of this car, automatic climate control is not even an option.

I'm a set-it-and-forget-it guy. The past half a dozen cars I've owned all had it. It's almost difficult to find other cars that don't have it as an option. Everything in Camaro's class seems to.

The only excuse I can think of for the Camaro not having it by now is that they really pigeon-hole'd themselves into the "retro looking" manual controls they designed. It doesn't lend itself well to the addition of auto climate control without a complete re-design of the radio/HVAC face plate.

Otherwise, it's difficult to justify with things like "that's not for a muscle car" or "it's too costly". If those were valid reasons for not having auto climate control, then we really shouldn't have HUD, MyLink, NAV, Bluetooth, Heated Seats, etc..

Another head-scratcher... Chevrolet intentionally put hill assist on the Camaro.

HILL ASSIST on a muscle car! A "feature" that people are going out of their way to get rid of. But no auto climate control... That would be too un-muscle-car-like LOL
