Any Negative effects 4rm Adding More HP?
Hey guys I'm about to buy myself a ZL1, and I wanted to take it to Hennessey to get the HP750 or HP800. I was just wondering if there would be any repercussions to this ex. shorting engine life, If so by how much? Thanks Guys.

I don't know that specifically a Hennessey package is going to limit motor life. But even though some of their packages come with a warranty, remember that will pretty much be the end of the 100,000 mile drive train warranty, or whatever it is we have.
I almost went to Hennessey. I guess the way I looked at it was that if I could afford to do that then I could afford to buy another engine if that one blew up in 2 or 3 years after their warranty ran out. Paying for blown up motors is just part of modding as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks guys, yea I mean I guess your right. It's only going to be a weekend car for me but if I'm putting as much money into this ZL1 as I would buying a Corvette Z06, I would just hope it last me @ least 5 years.

Statistically you will shorten the engine life. Will you see it? Hard to say. GM engineers each engine component to last a good distance beyond 100k. Some make it further than others . . . Let's say the stock engine is engineered for a median life of 200k, with a standard deviation of 15k. (I have no idea if this is true). Those mods will move the median, and perhaps the stdev as well. Unless you have someone doing FEA (finite element analysis) and statistical analysis, it's hard to say how much you will reduce the engine life, but you probably will. |

It wont last. You better off with a tune/pulley/ported snout and save your cash if your engine blow. You will grenade that bottom end sooner than later if youre going for 800hp!!

I would stop at the hp700 level if you are really worried about longevity.
his own waranty tells this story. 3/36 vs 1/12 this car can proabably have pertty stock reliability to 600-650hp range choosing the right mods. much over that and it is possible to shorten its lifespan.

That said, I would spend my money at a reputable local tuner over having Hennessey build the car. Sure, they build badass cars, but you are paying a premium with the name Hennessey stamped on it. If that's what you want, great, but you can spend less and have the same build going local. |

Please explain.Have you had this happen? Do you know someone that has? I would like to know for sure so that if I wanted to do this 800hp package to my car I would not want the bottom end to "grenade"

No disrespect but if your really worried about tearing something up besides pavement maybe go a little conservative. I have the 800 at the crank not the wheels. That's pretty much as high as you really want to go with the stock bottom end. I take the chain off my car maybe once or twice a week maybe. But if I grenade the thing I'll just come back with something bigger and badder to replace it. It costs a lot of money to haul azz! So if ur not ready to part with ur money and get the ole lady pissed take heed.

I have a little over 850hp at the crank and my tuner drove my car for a 1/2 hour and dyno tuned it and he said the only problem that I'm going to have is traction,he was very confident that it would stay together with a redline of 6500 rpm.

I was told by a local engine builder and a vendor on this forum that the 580-600 RWHP that I have won't affect reliability. That I should be able to drive like I stole for 10 years without problems. I'm not saying things won't break, but they
could also break stock as well. |
