Question on fuel for SS

Hey guys I recently purchased a used '11 SS (L99) and was curious if I put premium in do I have to do a fuse pull?...Its got regular unleaded in it now, or is premium even necessary? **I've read up on this in the forums and have heard mixed opinions, thanks

owner manual should tell you what to put in it. I know for my 2013 ss it recommends at least 91 octane. I usually alternate between 91 and 93. There's a post from apexchase, i think, about the fuse pull for fuel

you would only need to do it if the car has set itself on the low octane tables. I would assume that it has, if it has lower grade file in the tank. If the car seems sluggish at all, or you just don't feel like the power is there, try it. It takes only a couple of minutes to do it, and just leave it overnight.

I personally only run 93 or 94 octane in my SS. I once had a 2011 convertible SS here that had been filled with lower octane fuel. It felt like a pig, and wouldn't even turn the rear wheels for a burnout.

Oh ok thank you, assuming it has set itself on the low octane tables, would using premium octane gas still help performance?

Word is it won't reset to the higher octane table no matter how long you run 93 through it which is why you do the fuse pull. It's the only way it will reset to the higher table. Higher octane fuel doesn't add performance, it's just more resistant to knock, thus getting the most out of a higher compression, high performance engine. If you're stuck in the low table it's like putting 93 in a car that requires only 87. There is more detergents and additives that might keep the system cleaner, but performance wise just gives you a great placebo effect.

+1 But when you run some 91 or 93 thru it. pull the fuse & let the car sit over night before putting the fuse back in & running the engine.

If you've run nothing but 87 then do a fuse pull and I would suggest running only 93. I don't like skimping any corners with this car but I know everyone's budget is a little different

You have an SS. Even the V6s gain a little performance with 93 octane. The SS actually defaults to the low octane tables and you leave a bunch of power sitting on the table with 87. However, if your question is if you HAVE to run 91 or 93, the answer is no, you don't. But if you want max power, then yes you do (and pull the fuses to reset the ECU)

Run all the 87 out of it, fill it with 93, run it a little bit (1/2 tank), then do the fuse pull. Enjoy!

I run 92 with no Ethanol. Better gas mileage and performance.
