How long will the hood wrap really last?

So I was rereading the maintenance section of the 3M 1080 film .pdf:
http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/mediawe...M&pNM&MMMMMM--

And noticed this:
3M recommends that film be removed by a wrap professional. Film series 1080 is removable for up to 3 years after installation.

Clicking through the links, it seems like we'd be looking at mechanical removal after 3 years. It's got me thinking, should I let it ride or replace before it's 3 years old to avoid damaging the hood if and when I do need to replace it? Decisions decisions... anyone else caught this and looked into it more?

One option would be to have it painted, but I like having the option of just peeling it off if I wake up one day and decide I want the hood to match the rest of the car.

It's painted the color of the car underneath. If it was put on right there should be very little glue and it can be peeled off in less than 30 min by anyone with hands. I didn't know about the 3 year limit though. Rewrapping every three years would not be all that bad actually, considering how good it looks imo.

That's what I was thinking... I've already tried raising the hood with the wipers up once, so I have those spots staring at me all the time.

If you are of a mind to try it yourself, the materials can be had online for under $75. I have a professional wrap company up the road - I've though about getting a quote from them just to see what they charge.

When I had my Xpel put on today, the installer said he can put matte black Xpel on the whole hood if I wanted. We put a small piece on it, but I was not a fan of the change in appearance, so did not do it. The guy does full car wraps and window tint (tinted mine today) and said he can wrap the hood if it ever needs re-done.

I was told $400.00 for a rewrap. I had it painted to match the rear spoiler for $509.00
