Car for my sister?

So it's time for little sister to start driving and we are looking at buying her a car pretty soon. What do you guys suggest? She doesn't care about cars so it needs to have good MPG and be relatively cheap. She would probably be better with a smaller car, somewhere in the 12k to 18k range.

Not sure either of these fall within this price range [new]. It would be a Hyundai Accent or Toyota Corolla (although the base on the Elentra is technically $17,500 it's unlikely you'll find a single one of those on a dealer's lot).

If you want to stay in the GM family, the Sonic is worth at least looking at. Can get one for under $18,000 new and it comes well equiped.

If looking used, then there's A LOT of options (too many to list) since it all varies base don model, year, and mileage.

Try the Dart or 200. Look @ Kia Rio I think - the one I rented was pretty basic but was good for a first car. Ford Focus/Fiesta I heard was good also. Had a 2008 I think focus in the family pretty cool for a first car. All of these that I saw came with iPod hook ups/aux good trunk space easy to see out of and good gas mpg.

See if you can find a used Acura TSX. Reliable as heck, easy to drive and very safe.

Ford Focus is a great car and you could get a new one almost in her price range.
