Z/28 trick/tip for both A/C and non-A/C cars
Sorry if this has been previously discussed, as it would apply to all Gen 5's and might be "old info"... but I'm approaching about 2500 miles on my Z, and noticed the interior of these cars seem to retain a lot of heat... using the normal forward vent setting just seems to blow luke warm air at best (A/C off), even on the cooler days... im guessing its just the way the vents route through the dash, that has been cooking in the sun, engine heat, etc... I seemed to be running my A/C a lot more than usual, but by using the defroster vent setting and cranking the fan up a little bit, now i rarely use the A/C... and keeps the car much cooler / more true to the real outside air temp. Plus figured would be a good option to use for the non-A/C cars and/or while we're at the track.
Hope that helps

I am pretty sure the defroster runs the ac compressor as it helps dry out the air...
If you have AC, use it. If not, then that is the decision you made. |

when you first turn it on yes it automatically kicks on the a/c, but i just simply turn the a/c off and run just the defroster vent, and the air is true to the outside air temp... much more so than the forward vent setting.

I've found out that it's engine heat from the extractor. My 1le does the same thing. Heat collects in the high pressure area at the bottom of the windshield... Same place HVAC is pulled from.

When alone I run fan on upper vents then close all on my side and direct the others toward the passenger window.

You will see the a/c light come on, if on. I just turn it off after selecting the defroster vent... And actually shows "a/c off" for a brief moment on the head unit as well. At least that's how it works in my Z.

In defrost mode, you are running the compressor. That's why it feels cooler. No way to keep the compressor off if in defrost. Check the compressor when you turn the AC off, it may still be running. Now it may be changed on the Z28.
