Car got egged - Public storage?

A little background .... I am in transition right now since I moved to a new city so I am renting in a fairly nice apartment complex. I guess someone in the complex doesn't like the Z06 and decided to throw an egg through the back window this morning. This time was an egg who know what they will throw next time?

Since the Z06 is a weekend car, I was thinking on getting a public storage facility until we buy a house hopefully in the next 6 months or so. Has anyone done this before? There are two options in-door $139/month (OUCH!) or $57 outside with no roof or door. I feel uneasy about leaving the car outside in a storage facility 10 miles away from home. But then again I don't feel safe leaving it at my complex either. Any other suggestions that don't involve murdering someone or ending up in jail? I am also concerned about how much heat this enclosed storage will create? I don't want to put the car into an oven here in summer.

Thanks and sorry for the somewhat rambling post.

umm...if you park that outside 10 miles away...leave it unlocked and the keys in it...cause the damage from people having open access to the locked car is going to be heartbreaking. You will have it keyed, egged, tires and wheels stolen...it will be parted out slowly and surely. Best to keep it inside under lock and key.

Do the inside deal - now. Sorry about the eggs...find out if the complex has a security camera...find the perp, and drag his ass behind 405 horses...they will NOT do it again.

Well, it sounds like your best bet for the security is to pay the 139 a month.

Or get a 12 gauge and sit in a lawn chair by the car.

Is the cost worth the gain? Thats really what you have to ask yourself.

Sell the Vette and get a Camaro.

Unfortunately I think Vette owners suffer from a stigma or stereotype that is largely unfair. It was always a car the average man could not afford and their owners looked at as elitists, and hence, it gets more sneers than loving and appreciative stares. Doesn't make it right, but it is what it is.

Locked up, and garaged in a storage facility is the way to go if you don't want to worry about it

Well I already drove out and got a storage (in-doors and locked). I'm going to have to bite the bullet until I get a garage.

BTW cliffy, there are cars more expensive and luxurious than the Z06 there in the parking lot that I would consider more "snob" car category. I can guarantee you this could have happened to someone driving a new shinny Camaro too.

I'm sorry someone felt the need to do that to you. Hopefully you'll get yourself set up quickly in a new home.

Beat them up while wearing a hockey mask?

But in all seriousness set up your own surveillance as you can get a wireless camera setup for <$100 and catch them on tape and bring it to the cops. Probably some punk who'll be grounded for eternity when the cops come knocking at his door and talk to his parents...

Yep that's one of the things I was most afraid of.

I actually thought about that. However catching them after he/she does something worse to my car will not make me feel any better. Also I would start obsessing about catching him in which case I lower myself to his level. And about beating them up .... well I have a lot more to lose than the loser that gets up at 4am in the morning to egg a car. So not really worth it.

Fair enough. you could get one of the car covers with the links on the bottom and chain it shut. A guy near my job does that with his M6. I was kidding about the beating up bit BTW.

The complex here requires a parking decal on the rear window so they do not allow car covers. It's ok though, I have resigned to the fact I will have to spend money on the storage. Maybe I will save money for storage by canceling some of my useless TV channel packages.

Because you're a member here, and because I'm feeling generous, I'll tell you what I'll do. Park it in my garage and leave the keys. I'll take good care of it for you.
