Rotor question
Gentlemen,
Not revisiting the whole "What rotors should I get" question, so no worries there. Mainly, I was looking into the rotor options available, and like the idea of moving to Girodisc due to $$ and my question is this: Should I try to sell the OEM rotors before they get too far gone and if so, what would be a reasonable price? I only have 5.5 hours of track time on them, and that's not going all out as I'm still a novice, and 49K miles. P.O. never tracked the car so they were all easy miles prior to me getting them, and I don't drive them hard off track. No pictures yet as I was thinking of it this morning on the way to work, but seeing as they are ~$6K new... New set of Giro's from RDP is $2250 after discount code. I would love to come out ahead so I can move forward with some extra track-focused parts at the same time IF someone were to want to buy these. Opinions? |

First; I would weigh them to see how close or far they are from being toast. That would help gauge the sell price IMO.

If I'd do it all over again, I'd pull the CCBs off like the Porsche guys do and save them for resale. Just something to consider - even though my rotors are close to end of life I'm planning to save them just to have with the car if I decide to move to a Z06 / Z1LE and let the new owner decide their value.

How do I know when my rotors are worn out an must be replaced? I have 15 track days on the rotors, and I've replaced the pads twice.

I've got a proper scale coming in tomorrow, so I'll be able to weigh them. Already got everything prepped. Surprised at how they look after only 11 sessions (I know visually at this stage it doesn't matter but it's still pretty cool to see). I really haven't been pushing them anywhere near what they are capable of, yet.

Did GM do away with the torque-to-yield bolts for the calipers or am I really going to have to order new bolts for just weighing them right now?

Responded. Local dealer has some of the bolts and can get the rest by this afternoon, so crisis averted. I mean, it's not a BIG deal, but I really don't want to be like the other guys and use loc-tite and hope for the best... I care waaaay too much about this car and myself to risk it. |
