anyone port their heads?

Did a little browsing and couldnt find anyone that has done it. I did find that there is room for potential on our heads but trying to see if it would be worth my time and effort? Plus some insight and guidance would be cool.

Anyone? Even our "pioneers"? I'm guessing some gains are to be made but I was wondering if anyone here has successfully seen anything work

After I finish a few more mods on my LS, and the Machine Shop finishes with my 440/550 engine, I'm going to buy a spare set of LFX heads and see what kind of port work they can do. However, for the price of new LFX heads, I can buy an engine out of a wrecked LFX vehicle for just over $1000, and have them tweak much more than just the heads.

The Mace Engineering Cams reported gains, but said the exhaust ports were too restrictive for any worthwhile gains, so I think if I end up porting the exhaust side of things, I should be able to open it up enough for a new iteration of cam testing. I've also sent a few feelers out about custom rotating assemblies, but it would require a significant buy-in. (Think 3.6-to-4.0-ish forged stroker crankshaft, rods and pistons.)

If I can stroke my 440 to 550 c.i. (7.2L to 9.0L), I'm sure we can get the 3.6L to 4.0L or better without messing with redline. This is only adds 10mm to the stroke, and actually almost creates a 'square' engine. Stock, the engine is actually oversquare, and after my proposed stroke increase, it would be undersquare.

LFX Bore x stroke: 94.0 x 85.6 mm. Stroking it to 4.0L would make it 94.0 x 95.6 mm. Give it a 1.6mm overbore and you've got yourself a square engine, if you feel it's necessary.

And sorry, I'm kind of rambling here...thinking out 'loud'

Most definitely. My machine shop is awesome, and cuts me a great deal for return business, but outsourced fabrication and such will not be cheap, especially for one-offs. But, I'm that guy. That guy that loves the v6 tech, and bought a v6 intentionally to make it into one beast of a v6 so I can laugh at the haters.

I've got over $12,000 into my 440 engine project, and I haven't even STARTED on the body/suspension/drivetrain/electronics/etc restoration on my 1970 Charger. When that thing's pumping out 800-900 HP N/A, it'll be worth it. And then when I give it a shot of NOS and get it blown, even more so that I built it with proper internals to support it.

Absolutely. I should be getting my engine back in the next month, and after that, we'll get started with plans for the LFX and go from there. Once we get some real world numbers for comparison, and I reach out with a harder inquiry for Cranks and everything, I'll definitely be reaching out to all of you here.

Wishing I had the time and money to spoil my car

I think the heads are pretty good considering your getting 323 hp out of 217 cubic inches.. haven't heard of many people messin with the heads though.
