Should I cancel my GMPP and use the money for....mods?

So when i bought my car i tagged on the GMPP 100k/7yr warranty.

I...I know i don't have the willpower to hold out. I'm weak, and the mistress of power beckons my monies.

I inquired and i have 60 days to net a full refund on the warranty. If i remember right it was around $3000. That's alot of nice parts I can grab.

I've had the car for only 4 or 5 days and have done the skip shift eliminator and muffler delete. Really want to do full bolt-ons and prepare for a supercharger.

So, what would you do?

When I took out a GMPP warranty about 10 years ago and cancelled it, the check was written directly to me even though there was a lien on the vehicle.

But, it's good advice anyway-- put it towards the loan, or, set it aside as an emergency fund for the car. $3k will set you up very nicely if the car ever needs work outside of warranty.

Think about it this way. If you do not cancel it, and you continue on doing those mods, a lot of them will void any warranties anyway, so what is the sense of buying one when you might never be able to use it?

Just a thought.

I just cancelled mine 2 days ago. Just like NYCam said, if you continue to mod the car it's going to void most of the extended warranty. I started reading the fine print and decided to go in to the dealership where I bought the car to cancel the warranty.

Process only took about 5 mins, they just verify the mileage on the car and fill out 1 form. They told me the money was gonna go back to the bank but that doesn't matter to me, figured that the money the bank gets back is money I don't have to pay them and can buy my LT headers with that.

at least its three thousand dollars you will not have to repay or accrue interest on and yes the extended warranty goes usually into effect immediately and runs concurrently with you factory warranty costing you money right out of the box for nothing..... they are a rip off.

Yes, cancel the warranty and use for mods..., if thats what your wanting to do. If your auto loan is a high interest rate, you may want to pay that down instead though. But providing you have a low rate - have fun with the money and make the car the way you like.

The dealer gave me the Auto Butler for five years if I purchased the warranty. I cancelled the Major Guard warranty after the first auto butler application. Now I wonder if lose the auto butler as well.

Got a really low rate. Was pleasantly surprised to find I'm just a hair away from an 800 score.

I think I may go for it. Just really sucks that a tune voids a warranty.
