4.3 ecotec3 swap

New user, hello everybody! I've had my 13' 1LS M6 for two years now, and it has been tons of fun. I almost went for the 1LE but wouldn't part with the extra 13k so I bought an R1 instead! I think the 5th generation Camaro is a great mix of performance, style, quality, value, and safety. As for the ecotec3 idea, it's just something that I think would add some torque, and room for extra displacement. Might have to be an automatic though.

Nice choice with the R1! I'm looking to get a 2009 pretty soon but I don't know if I should because it would be my first bike and everyone says to stay below 600 for your first.

In case anyone wants to check out the specs.

Looks like there's some room to grow with this engine.

Is this going to be a simple drop-in, or will you need to reinvent the wheel to get this mated with the stock Camaro drivetrain?

I started with a cbr 600rr and it was too small for me. If I had started with a 750 I would probably still have it. The R1 is so much faster! I doubt the Camaro drive train from the LFX would bolt up, but the one from the LS3 might.

All bikes are the same when you get them rolling.

Its about how responsible, safe, smart, and tactful you are to use that extra displacement.

Get the bike you want. Don't regret it later!

To do a 4.3 swap you'd probably need custom engine mounts, the 4.3 ECU and TCU, a transmission that comes with the 4.3, custom driveshaft, etc. Probably not worth it. If you want more power, give the car boost.

It would be like a big block V6 it is also E85 right off the bat, one camshaft instead of four, piston oil squirters, relaxed emissions requirements. If I had an engine failure I might consider it, but forced induction is truly where the power is. My 600rr couldn't hold a candle to the R1. When choosing the right motorcycle, you want to size the bike to the rider, and experience level. When it comes to personal responsibility, it's you out there in the wind, watch out for others. Don't fly too close to the sun, and watch your back. Dirt bikes are cheaper, and better to learn on. I went straight for the Superbike though. If someone pulled off this swap, you might have to add another section to the forums. I have driven a Silverado with the LV3, and was impressed by the torque, and fuel economy this engine wants to go .

I'd never do this swap just for the heck of it, but I would love to see what kind of power the modded 4.3 on E85 can put down. 297/330 stock on E85 is nice. Bet with mods you could see that number climb to 320/350 or more. That would be pretty damned sweet.

Spot on. The only "feasible" engine swap would be to swap it out for an LF3 or 4, and that's still questionable. They should have the high feature v6 tranny bell housing bolt pattern still.

Better off to go with forced induction with your current engine, or trade it in on a car that's got the engine you want.

Well from what I have noticed, the engines get more efficient, but the vehicles get heavier and bigger so we have really only gained 1-5 MPG's increase for the last 10 years...I can get 21mpg highway in a 1992 4.3L S-10 that weighs 3500 LBS in a new Silverado though 24mpgs if you are lucky with the vastly improved 4.3L LV3 and 6speed transmission. Logic would say to me that you could easily get 30 MPGS with that engine in an S-10 easy

So are you speaking from experience ? You couldn't be more wrong . A sport bike is completely different from most all other bikes out there . A 600cc sportbike will out accelerate most cars . Has the braking power with stock brakes to flip the rider over the front of the bike and land on top of them . I've been riding sportbikes for about 25 years and motorcycles for 30 . Sportbikes aren't for beginners . It always sucks when you here a nub say "but I'll respect the power" and a couple weeks later they come onto a forum looking for parts to rebuild their bike because they bind it .

Yea I got my first sport bike at 18 a cbr1000 with a power commander and that thing would fly! Unfortunately I wrecked it 2 times within the first 4 months of owning it lol, I'm now 22 and it's still sitting under my shed, the 600 would be my suggestion to start on

Your current engine was designed to go to 4.0L but nobody has done it yet.

I did not even know this motor existed and now I am kinda pissed. This is the engine that should be in the V-6 Camaro. The fact that it is a 90 degree opens the possibilities for forced induction greatly over the 60 degree.
