Engine Revs when taken out of gear

So my SS has just under 30k miles on it. Lately ive noticed that sometimes when I take it out of gear it'll rev itself up to about 1100 rpms and then drop back to normal idle around 700 rpms. It'll sometimes pop up and down a couple times before idling at 700. Wondering what might be the cause of this and would like to fix any issue before it becomes worst! Other than that the car runs great. I haven't had any issues with it. I run top tier gas and do all oil changes on time and what not. thx for any help!

I dont have an SS but my V6 Camaro does this sometimes too. I never really noticed it until I put an exhaust on it but I can hear it when im pulling up to lights and stop signs. It also does it in gear when I have the clutch pressed rolling to a stop as well. Not sure what it is but I've been noticing it for over a year now and nothing has gone wrong with it. I drive mine daily and it happens maybe 3 times a week. I personally dont worry about it.

This actually happens to me and I have an automatic SS. When shifting into a higher gear it over revs occasionally instead of going right into gear then goes into gear.

Is the engine under load before you take it out of gear?

I had a similar issue. It was a sensor for the gas tank.

Mine has done this from day one, even more noticeable with the exhaust I have installed and even more when the cutouts are open. I always thought it was something the factory had done or my tuner when I installed the nitrous system and had it dyno tuned. Does make the car sound even more bad ass

This is also a symptom of an intake leak.

I realize how displeasing it can be when faced with an engine concern like this Kill3mall, and though you're seeking thoughts and opinions, I would be happy to communicate this situation with the designated Customer Experience Manager at your preferred dealer if you feel an official diagnosis is necessary. Feel free to message us privately if you'd like to proceed, or discuss this situation further.

Kind regards,

William R.
