Built 6L80 vs 4L80
Im looking at being around 650rwhp with nitrous and trying to determine if building my 6L80 is worth it. I already have a flare in 3-4 shift and know I need to fix it. Cost wise 4L80 is going to be more but in other peoples experiences, is it do it right the first time and pay for the 4L80 or have the 6L80s held up?
Car is not my DD but I do drive it to work and around town as well as take it to the track. I am not concerned about losing two gears (really one). Just trying to justify which route I should go as both are costly. Especially the 4L80 with required components I don't have (new driveshaft, converter, TCM, etc). |

I've been through 2 built 6L80E's and went to a TH400. I'm done with the 6L80 although my tuner says they can be built now to take the power. If it was my call I'd go with the 4L80 every time.

If I added a blower to my car, I'd be looking seriously into swapping to a ZL1 6L90 trans. Also there might be a truck trans that is similar, but I have not done research on it.

I went to a 6L90 for a ZL1. Will have to get a driveshaft for that swap also, along with a new cross member. I also had to swap the trans control module from my 6L80 to the 90.

6L90 from the dealer can be found for under $3k outright, new. ZL1 cross member. And have the front of your drive shaft shortened 1.4". Plug it in and do a write entire with HPtuners. Sell your 6L80 for whatever you can.

The core charge is what gets you. There are some sights that you can search junk yards across the country for them. Found a couple that way.

I like the idea of the 6l90 as well and for it's price it seems well worth it. |
