Quick Catch Can Question

Just finished installing my catch can (Elite Engineering) and when I fully tightened the top hose barb, it was invariably pointing toward the side of the can, toward the tensioner pulley, rather than toward the exhaust manifold.

I applied some teflon tape to the threads and that did some good, but not enough to get it fully tight and still have it in the direction it really should be.

It's not loose, by any means, but it's not really tight either.

Ran the car about fifteen miles, hit WOT a couple times, no leaks so far, but thought I'd check in here to see if anyone's had a similar experience, get your feedback on potential issues, etc.

So, anyone have any thoughts?

That's how mine is, no problems with it in over 4 years.

Went out and gave it another look. Black car, parked out in the sun while we cleaned the garage. Everything had gotten fairly warm over the course of the afternoon, and would go a bit further toward "tight" now.

Gave me enough movement to get things aligned more to my satisfaction.

Thanks for the feedback Godon.

Can I ask how many times you wrapped the Teflon around the fitting? 1-2 turns won't do much.

mine did the same thing and i had the same issue when i was installing. wrap it in teflon tape or that sealant glue/gunk stuff an you should be fine as long as it isnt loose enough to wiggle out. 1 or 2 turns around should be enough. i drove mine without a sealant around it for about a week an it was fine.

3-4 times around is my standard approach to teflon tape. Everything's fairly well tight and facing the right direction now.

I was probably just being over cautious. I'll keep an eye on things, of course. Appreciate the help guys.

Elite will tell you 3 to 4 turns. I got 2 1/2 turns I think. I used thicker teflon tape with wrapped twice. I didn't like how loose it was once facing correct position. I re did the Teflon that time doing 4 layers and it made it a tighter fit.
