AON: That comment RIGHT there is why I am ALSO at times ashamed to ENJOY driving a MUSTANG! I just got back from getting Christine's oil changed (Kistler is epic like that, giving me free stuff ). So I strolled the lot and talked with one of the local salesmen (a Mark I.R. Dumbshit). He recalled that a few weeks prior I had been asking about a V6 mustang just to see it, and he obliged by handing me the keys to a Kona Blue V6 Premium ( ) Made me sign a waiver and said "have her back in 15, Mike.""Will do. "Took it for a spin because I wanted to see what the 'hullaballo' was about them tightening up the car across the board (I drove a GT, remember?). I also had 30 minutes to blow while they changed the oil. I knew the 4.0 cologne and what to expect power wise because it's the motor I abuse in Christine daily. I've driven a V6 Camaro and it was pretty epic. But you know me.. always gotta be Mr. Fence. So I took it out for 5 mins (it had a pegged gas needle on the E so I had maybe 5 miles of gas?) and flicked off the traction control.. ZOMGWTFBBQ! I've never had MY 4.0 pin my 275lb ass in a seat..EVER! Holy crap. However, I will say this in defense of the Camaro: the LS has the obvious leg up on the Cologne by an effing longshot w/ the LLT and Tapshift standard on the autotragic. Mustang: 1st gear was whee.. 2nd-4th were and immediate *pffft*. Ford, look what GM did. Put a freaking tapshift system in the Mustang standard, preeze? Though it had a 28K sticker, it was a nice little car, but it was a Chick6 in every sense. The Interior of the Premium was pretty nice, and IMO the camaro interior was too.. but more of a Take or Leave approach than the 'stang. I could see why many think that way. Everything was just as nicely set up as the Camaro. Leather was a bit better in this car's case than the LT I tested at DeNooyer. It had the shaker so I was looking at an uplevel radio/dash. It was still simplistic, and for a bit I missed the Camaro's HVAC. Gauges were a bit better to look at than the Camaro's, but their DIC system wasn't a well set up as the Camaro's. Back seats were actually smaller by perspective as compared to the Camaro. Visibility IMO was just the same as the Camaro, so to each their own. HOWEVER: I had to bottom out the seat and retract it all the way back to be comfortable. So the Camaro wins for interior space again. In the end if the 3.7L swap rumors are true, and they decide to mimic the Camaro (lol) I won't know what to think until I sit down and do a budget analysis. Honestly, I may wait for now to get my '10 Camaro until the hype dies off (or I win one). Why? I couldn't test another LT today because every Chevy dealer in the 5 miles radius had a DO NOT TOUCH D-bag attitude on all their Camaros. However, I still love DeNooyer for not only letting me test their LT, but also being a good dealership that would rather be friends with their customers over just treating transactions like something at a grocery store. To finish, I still respect GM, but also respect Ford for their sales force. Like Fen, I had family in the auto industry; my late grandfather Edward Cooke who worked at the Lorain Assembly plant for god knows how long before he retired and moved to Florida. To that extent I owe him the honor of driving a Ford because his pension is allowing my grandmother to live a happy life selling real-estate in Florida. For the record, he HATED the pinto mustangs, and was the person that BOUGHT MY MOM HER FIRST CAMARO! ![]() But I think, if he were alive today, he'd be proud of what Lutz, and Mullally have done for the American Auto industry in the short term. And like Fen, make fun of 'Taioduh' every chance he could (and he did, I'm not kidding). I love GM. I love Ford. I loved my Grandpa, and I love you guys. Without you..all of you. Jim, Scott, Max-Bob, Fen, Tom and Bill at Kistler, I'd be shopping at the Hyundai dealership next door, A FORMER PONTIAC DEALERSHIP! :RAEG:. On this day: Patriot Day.. I want to say thanks to the men and women of General Motors and Ford Motor Company. Thank you for your amazing cars. /endramble |
