I've heard that the 3.4L camaro doesn't really take well to upgrades, in fact, ive heard that the 3.8 is the one to mod if any. But if i was to order a camshaft for my 3.4 how do you guys think it would do? hp/tq gains? which brands are good?

The 3.4 is essentially a Devil motor in all applications. With the introduction of the 3.8, GM fixed most of the issues that made the 3.4 motor a PITA more or less.

In the end, I don't think it'd be a good idea to cam a 3.4.

if you fix the problems that gm put into the motor with a simple topend swap...the motor more than makes up for itself. there was a guy in the past with a ported/polished/balanced 3.4 with a cam and tuning that made 200 rwhp. but thats as far as he got before his stuff burned down :( (tranny fire).

ive hit 184 with a 10.5:1 a/f ratio..tuning should get me a little higher and ive got a mild cam. do yourself a favor - call up comp cams and tell them waht you have and what you want (take off power, top end power, etc).

they can walk you through it and suggest a good grind

if you really want performance out of the 3.4 - get rid of the large paperweights atop the block. i did. went from 140.2 rwhp->170.1 rwhp from swapping heads, intake and adding headers.

the 3.8 is an ok motor but its way over-rated. (my wife owns a 3.8L convertible camaro so i do know about them)
