ZL1 on a Diet

Let me start with this;
The best way to reduce the weight of our ZL1's.
Two categories that identify ways to trim some fat from our beast.

Category One - Daily Driver, still keeping comfort.
Category Two - Street Legal, comfort level subjective.

Your ideas and experience with this subject are welcome!

I would start with a set of quality wheels and tires.

I have checked battery weights and it looks like a different battery could save 10-30 pounds for 150-1000 dollars. But I am not sure that is even worth it.

I think a few pounds per wheel/tire could be saved but as mentioned, the factory wheels are pretty good. Some of the TSWs are 4-6 pounds lighter each.

Other than that I have not thought of anything.

I took 110lbs off my ZL1 without sacrificing any comfort. Check my thread. Also about to be selling my forged wheels+tires. OEM wheels are gorgeous but weigh 28lbs and 29lbs respectively. My forged wheels weigh 18.2lbs each. With the tires I chose I saved 50lbs off the OEM setup.

Unlike the 4th gen, there isn't a lot of low hanging fruit for weight reduction on the 5th gen and still retain the creature comforts. It's just a big-boned car. Look at what it took for GM to reduce weight on the Z/28 and you can see how hard it is lower the weight. Imo the cheapest and easiest is rear seats, battery, the tire inflator and trunk insulation and panels. However, road noise and exhaust sound is greatly increased if you go that route. Also, if you search here, there is an older thread on weight reduction in one of the general sections.

Lol. This is probably the best and healthiest way. Also, don't drive around with a full tank of gas.

Sorry if this topic has been kicked around before. Maybe there is something new that has not been discussed.

I did find this in the search though;

so since theyre forged, does that mean there's nothing lighter available?
there are plenty of offerings out there that are lighter, forged or not.

I wouldn't touch a lightweight non-forged wheel for a 4200+ lb car, but sure there are lots of forged wheels that will be lighter than stock but at a huge price.

The TSWs that are forged and around 21-23 pounds each are between 3 and 4 hundred each. I have been trying to plan out a set of 19s for money and weight savings but the only rear I can find would be 305/35/19 which is an inch shorter than stock and I am not sure how it would look.

And the stock wheels are forged and heavy and at a huge price also at roughly $1000 a piece.
This thread isn't about low cost mods, it's about low weight mods so I don't see your point.
