Why no change in V8s during G5

Curious as to why people think Chevy consistently tuned up the V6 to get from 304hp/273tq to 323hp/278tq

Yet both the LS3 and L99 were basically unchanged. Is this mainly to keep the entry numbers above fords entry numbers?

Think it would be good to have had the V8 stay consistently ahead of the V6 by relatively the same numbers.

At least the next gen get a vert nice boost out the gate.

I believe that the 2010 had lower numbers than all other models. At least it was rated lower.

They`re not tuned, the LLT V6 was first rated at 304HP & 273TRQ before being certified, in 2011 after SAE certification testing it was rated at 312 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 278 lb-ft of torque at 5100 rpm. The 2012 LFX V6 323HP is a different engine.

they perfected the V8 with the LS3. no reason to mess with it. The Corvette always gets the new engine 1st.

Most cars sold by GM have a 4 cylinder. They put most of their money into development of those engines. The next most popular engine is the V6, and it gets the next highest investment. That is why you see shorter turnover time for those engines. Spreading that R&D cost over a larger base makes it easier to swallow some failures. Once the technology is stable it can go into the more exclusive (and expensive) engines like the V8. That's why the L99 and LS3 have been such reliable platforms...they benefited from the success and failure of the other engines GM has built.

GM Gave the V8 a Supercharged offering in 2012+ called the ZL1, and a NA 427 in 2014 & 15 called the Z/28.

No need to boost the HP on the SS as you would be getting into Z/28 and ZL1 HP.

Mostly to be sure the Vette (flagship) always has more stock HP. Just my opinion.

No wonder Ford and Dodge are killing Chevy in the HP war! Don't want to upset the Vette owners and stay competitive.
The Zl1 needs a significant power boost along with the SS!

The LS7 in the Vette and Camaro made the same power. The LS3 in the Vette was only marginally more powerful than in the Camaro. The Vette didn't get the LSA, but the version in the Camaro was more powerful (marginally) than in the Cadillac. I don't think GM is holding back to keep the Vette/Cadillac owners happy. The Vette is faster/quicker because of many things, not just power. That's why it is more expensive as well.

Ford and Dodge aren't doing that with the base models, they are special editions. For Camaro that's the Z28 and ZL1. You don't need to win the HP battle to win the war. How many HP superior cars does the 1LE beat on the track?

From a different source, but essentially the same info:
http://www.torquenews.com/106/histor...egendary-power

2010 LLT rated at 304 HP
2011 LLT re-rated at 312 HP with no engine changes
2012 LFX** (different engine) rated at 323 HP
2013-2015 same LFX rated at 323 HP

** The article notes the HP increase to 323 in 2012, but does not mention that it was the new LFX engine which replaced the LLT.
