Catch Can Install

Just to make a long story as short as possible. Bought an E2 catch can, tried to install it last night. For some reason the way the bracket lined up , it just didn't seem right. Either it was too far pointing left or to far pointing right, not straight ahead. So I bent it a little, got it to look ok, attached the hoses (I ordered the upgraded lines and bought small hose clamps), turns out it was hissing like an obvious air leak. Tightened the fitting a little more but still had a hiss. Got frustrated, put everything back to stock. The question I have is the stock PCV is obviously not air tight, so is a little hissing ok from your can ? I also emailed Elite Engineering, they told me they were un-aware that GM had moved the location of the bolt they use on the back side of the radiator so they are making new brackets for the ZL1. Any thoughts guys ??? Thanks !!

I have a '15 and had no issues with the bracket. FYI, the long part of my bracket arm is lined up towards the outside, which might make a difference. As for the hissing, I had the same issue with the braided lines. I have no idea what the "correct tool" is to get them on, but apparently the trick is to get them over the rib on the tube. Apparently if you can do that, you should not observe any more hissing. I tried using soapy water as that was a tip given to me on this forum, but again, couldn't get it to slide up and over the rib. Elite Engineering suggested I flair out the end of the hose first then try to slip over.

Search the forum threads, there a lot on here about the CC and installing it.

Good luck, and FYI, it does work. (and BTW, I bought regular vacuum hose and installed my CC using that hose. I still couldn't get it over the rib but used the provided mini-hose clamps and it was much easier to install and my CC works great, no hissing).

hissing is not ok as the car will see this as an air leak and adjust the idle fueling accordingly. Take a pic to show us where the bracket doesn't line up.

Winterboy8,
Not sure what you mean by " long part of the bracket" pointed towards the outside ? Do you mean you can is really close to that heat sink at the front passenger side ? Also , I don't think the hiss was from the inlet/outlet, I believe it was coming from the can fittings. I used Teflon tape and cranked them down as tight as I could, but then it was hard to get them lined up straight for the hoses. So you ended up just using the reg hoses then ? I bought some small hose clamps for the inlet/outlet on the intake, so they were really tight.

I had the exact same can for 2 years and it never hissed or leaked. I also used standard rubber hoses with standard "spring" clamps.

Stephen12ZL1,
Did you put your hoses over the rib on the intake inlet/outlet as well ?

So, without having a picture to use on here, the bracket has a short arm with a hole that connects to the radiator bolt. Then there is the long part of the arm which translates the CC out to the open area between the engine and the radiator. Finally, there's another short piece with 2 holes that attaches to the CC itself.

Now, looking from top down, radiator closest to you, that bracket will look like either this [ or this ]. If I remember correctly, it will go in either way and if you put it in like ] this, the long part can interfere with the hood vent when closed. There was another guy who had that issue. So, if you install like this [ the long part moves from inboard to outboard.

Make sense?

yes, that is true..but then the can just about leans up against that heat sink right ? I mean there is no ZL1 specific instructions on Elite's website. I asked them for those as well....but yea I know what you mean. I had the same issue, ] this way the can gets in the way of the hood vent. so i'm not sure what to do , they told me they were working on new

If you are speaking of the ribbing on the fitting itself...of course. The hoses must fit over the ribbing of the fitting. Use some WD-40 to ease install.

Look at the last thread I posted. I think you may be on the wrong radiator bolt. I posted link in previous comment, check it out.

Stephen12ZL1,
No, I meant the little rib on the intake inlete/outlet tubes, there seems to be enough room to slide the hoses on without actually geeting the hose over that little rib ?
