Drive belt and vortech
So got my Vortech V3 installed and drove home the 600km. When I got home I noticed a small hole in the hood liner and some small belt pieces.
I checked out the new vortech belt thinking that was what was coming apart. While I did see some small fraying, there was nothing bad. We loaded up the car and headed for the big Camaro cruise. 2000km later a CIL comes on and I've blow the main engine drive belt, not the big vortech belt. Now the hole in the hood liner is obvious where it came from. Has anyone had experience with a problem like this? I would suspect an alignment issue but upon replacing the belt we looked hard and all appears straight on. So if anyone has a good idea, let me know. Side note: I have contacted the installer and am waiting for his response.

So anyone with a centrifugal supercharger can chime in. Belt breakage, is the belt too tight for what's happening as the super charger builds its power?? I'm thinking that its stretching the belt and causing it to come apart.
No ones had experiences with belts breaking on these chargers?.

I had a cog belt when I had a Ysi and I shredded a belt when (somehow) a rock got between the crank pulley and the belt... I never used a serpentine drive belt for it.
Under hard acceleration, they may be some flexing going on pulling things out of alignment. |

Alignment, tension, proper installation. Start there. Took me 5-6 belts, and a good 6 months worth of tweaking and swapping parts to get my setup to stop tossing belts.

Watched a show last night on Speedweek. The guy was talking about the amount of tension that belt goes under when the charger goes full booster and then lets off. Am I going to have to just keep new belts on it?
The alignment looks fine but I suppose fine can be measured in millimeters. The only part I really am not sure of is part of the Vortech kit, its the replacement pulley wheel. There are no edges on it and the belt actually sits higher than the edge it has. I am totally grabbing for straws here.

Once the belt is setup and aligned properly, should last 40k+ miles. No issue with pulleys like that. You can't eyeball alignment. Get a laser system on it and measure.

If I understand properly, you are breaking the stock drive belt? Not the supercharger belt?
I have the bracket setup that came with Vortech's V3 kit. I now have the V7 with cog drive. I have never had any issues with the stock drive belt or A/C belt. I don't have a ton of miles on my car, but I run it in standing mile events where it sees full throttle and 7000 rpm redlines for 30 secs at a time.

Do you or anyone else run an upgraded serpentine belt? I want to hit full throttle and 7000rpms but a little set back right now cause I don't need to be left on the side of the road again.
