For warranty purposes, use a synthetic 5W30 that is API and DEXOS approved. It will say it on the bottle. A lot of the cars with internal mods are running oils with enhanced levels of ZDDP. As for brand, you'll get a hundred different answers to that. Royal Purple HPS, Redline, Amsoil, Joe Gibbs Driven and Brad Penn are all popular and quality oils for the modified crowd, but are usually not available at your local parts store.

Amsoil Dominator 15W50 race oil, and there are a bunch of reasons to run other than Mobil1. On a pure stock OE motor Mobil 1 is fine. Modded motors....not so much.

Zinc isn't a huge factor, given that these engines have super-tight tolerances. If these engines used flat-tappet cams, we would be having a different discussion. The key factor with roller cams is the film strength rating. Zinc is a wear inhibitor, but if GM warrants these engines for 100k miles, then I'm okay with the zinc content found in Mobil1 (801ppm). Plus, oil analysis has not shown any greater metal content (caused by wear) by using Mobil1 vs racing oil. Many racing parts suppliers recommend Mobil1 for vehicles that are primarily used on the street, and only as an occasional racer. Different scenario if the car races more than it sees the street. So, I stand by what I said. I'd like your opinion on why you feel that Mobil1 isn't good with internal mods. BTW...this is a never-ending argument, so really I'm just looking for your opinion.

Bull never said that Mobile 1 was not good with internal mods and neither did I. I won't speak for him, but I feel there are better oils than Mobile 1 available, especially for internally modded engines.
Yes, film strength is very important, probably the most important factor when choosing an oil, but it's not the only factor. Bigger cams come with increased valve train pressures and I prefer to give my valve train every advantage I can by running an oil with enhanced levels of Zinc. Is Zinc as important in a roller cam engine as it is in a flat tappet cam engine. No it isn't, but it's still an important factor to consider. If I can get an oil with the same or better film strength than Mobile 1 with higher levels of Zinc, why wouldn't I use it? Just my opinion. As you know, GM warranty's these engines as long as the stock parts are used, not aftermarket cams and valve trains. So I feel there recommendation is null and void with internal mods.

Pennzoil Platinum and it is covered under the GM Dexos ratings for oil so will not screw up your warranty.

Pennzoil Ultra 5w-30 seems to work really well for my motor.
