Car porn
Went to a Veteran's Day car show at the local American Legion today. This bad boy was on display. I've never been a Mopar guy, but you simply cannot ignore this car:

Bravo Chrysler! That car destroyed everybody a NASCAR. Even as a chevy guy, its hard to hate the old favorites as these. Nice pics.

I helped my buddy Dave move two of his Mopars yesterday: a 1969 Super Bee that originally had a 383/4speed but now has a 440, and a 1970 Dart 340/4speed. The Dart was Plum Crazy from the factory.
His 'Bee and Dart are both 'project' stage and he's had them for 30+ years, but although I'm a GM guy I really, really like those old Mopars. Check out the rear glass on a '69 Super Bee sometime. Wild. And the car is enormous while still being 'Intermediate'. Plus I got to ride in his new Challenger SRT 392. Dig it. But if you think the 5Gen Camaro is big (which I really don't; it's really quite close in dimensions to a '69, compare for yourself sometime and be surprised), that Challenger feels looks and drive BIG. But goes like hell.

I like it just fine except for the BS hood scoop. Why would you modify an original stock hood if in fact that is a stock hood?
EDIT; Never mind, it`s a modified Super Bee hood.

Very nice!
This guy frequents the slows I show up to. Notice the signatures, Richard Pretty and his crew chief's signature.

I just noticed, that if you look next to my car in the background of the first picture you'll see car #45 of the GMMG 2002 ZL1's. It's a stage 3 427 c.i. 600 hp monster! Typically where you see the Superbird you see the GMMG car as well. They guys are friends.

If you ever see this person again ask him if that white vinyl top is factory original stock. I thought all Superbirds were fitted with a black vinyl roof, regardless of exterior paint color.

That is the factory color combo. The guy was bragging about it when I was talking to him. He said it is the rarest factory listed color combo. He mentioned that a couple burnt orange superbirds made it out, but that wasn't a factory optioned color for that car.

I have to wonder if the superbird in the OP's post is a real one. Too many things don't add up. Superbirds didn't have chrome wheel arch moldings, the back was completely body color on Superbirds, no chrome moldings, it doesn't have the correct hood. Superbirds used a modified Coronet hood. The air cleaner has the wrong decal on it for a Hemi. Plus there are other issues with things that weren't on that car under the hood. And of course those wheels are aftermarket. I would be interested in knowing the deal with that cars. For one it would be quite expensive to clone a Superbird. I've seen the nose alone go for 10grand.
Edit: After looking closer, it does have the correct rear window for a Superbird. Maybe the other things are just owner's taste. Who knows. But, if I had a Superbird ,especially a Hemi version, I would want it to be correct. Last edited by motorhead; 11-16-2015 at 09:35 PM. |

White vinyl was not a listed factory color for the Superbird. Also, I have never seen a Superbird with anything other than black around the headlight openings. The Burnt orange cars, of which were known to be three, were supposedly order mistakes, but it is more thought to be an inside deal that happened. That would have to be the case here too if it is infact factory white vinyl with white headlight surounds. Seems odd that someone who get a non option pushed through on the base motor though. If I was going to try to make a one of one so to speak, I would have also gotten at least the 440-6 six ,but probably the Hemi.

I went rooting around in some of my older pictures tonight, and realized I had photographed this car back in 2006, including the display card that the owner shows. Not sure if this sheds any light on anything, or just creates more questions, but figured I would share.
