Unhappy I need help, Camaro has been down 5 months

I am in need of help; my 2010 Camaro SS has been setting in my driveway for over 5 months now. My problem first started when I noticed that while driving mostly in cruise control it felt like someone was tapping the break, my car would buck one time. In April it stopped on me while I was driving. I was able to start it back up and drive it home. It died one more time on the way home. Next issue once I got it home for a few months it would crank up but not continue to run. I turned the key it would start up and just die, pushing the gas would not help keep it running, it had no effect at all. After about a month it would start and run maybe two mins sometimes as long as about 5 min but then it would die. In August I added some B-12 to the fuel tank (1/4 tank of fuel n car) and for the next two days it cranked up and ran good. One time it ran for about an hour. The third day it cranked up ran for a few minutes then died. I have not been able to keep it running again. It will crank every time but will not stay running. Sometimes it sounds like it’s trying to stay running for about 2 or 3 sec but it sputters out. The fuel pressure is good and I have a code scanner, no faults. I am thinking the fuel is bad. Before this the car would usually sit a few months with the same fuel. If I start it with my foot on the gas it will crank up rev to very high RPMs but still die. Battery is reading at 12.9V. I need help, should I drain the fuel tank, add fuel to dilute possible bad fuel, add fuel cleaner or can it be something electrical/mechanical? I o not know what to do, this car may end up being a permanent fixture in my drive way

Check and clean the MAF sensor. I had this issue last summer. Stumped the service tech who works on my car from home. He said it looked like a cobweb in the sensor. He cleaned it and the car fired right up! Hope this helps.

Cars don't have a tank drain. So it's a pain but just fill it up with jerry cans with fresh fuel, and like speed kills said clean the maf.

Not necessarily. The electronics are so fickle on these cars - especially the 2010's. I could not start mine for 3 weeks because of a bad RADIO module for an aftermarket radio ...

If it has been just sitting for 5 months I would think it is time to take it in to a shop and have it looked at.

for the first three months it did run but not for long. I can't afford to take it to a shop right now. I am retired from the Army and don't much money

I'm kind of new to the LS3 engine myself, and ashamed as I am to say it, haven't done too much poking around just yet. So there are some things that I am not exactly sure how to check on this engine, but maybe someone can chime in if they do know.

You say your pressure is good. Did you test with a gauge? If so, did it hold pressure, or did it fade quickly? Did you check the pressure as it was cranking?

My first thought is fuel pump. Sometimes they can deliver enough to start an engine, but fail to deliver enough to keep it going, until it finally fails altogether. This would be detected by pressure drop at ignition.

Another possibility is either leaking injectors, flooding the cylinder and killing spark. Or the opposite, the injectors not getting pulse and not delivering fuel. But if the car will run briefly, that's probably not the case. This also means you're getting spark.

So, that leaves us with air. The only time I encountered a start no run issue tied to a maf sensor was when I forgot to plug the maf on my '96 Vette back in after doing some work. However, it immediately threw a P0100 code at me. But you could check to see if your maf is getting and sending voltage.

Of course, you could be right about bad gas. The only way I can really think of to check that is to get one of those cheap pumps from the auto parts store and pump it out and check it for water or something.

However, I'm leaning towards a fuel delivery problem. It really does sound to me like your fuel pump can prime the system, but just can't keep up after that. could be clogged filter too.

Anyway, if nothing else, here's a bump for ya, and maybe some others have some ideas. It is hard to say anything for certain just reading a computer screen though.

I'll ask the logical question here. Why did you buy a car you couldn't afford to maintain?

He could have purchased it back when he had the means to maintain. Then over time life happened and he has since retired. During that period the car has fallen into disrepair and he is struggling to both live and keep the car. The resale on a non-running car is too much of a hit to take. The type of car is moot if there is a financial struggle to go to a mechanic, doesn't even matter what is wrong.

Then again, I could be wrong.

Think I'll be getting one of these too as I just dropped from the 5yr/100K warranty.

If you've never seen one of these, they're awesome. The field service manual (FSM) is the very book dealership techs use to work on these cars (though most dealers have them online). They give specific troubleshooting, as well as proceedures, tools needed, and specifications. If it's on the car, it's in the book.

Check for air leaks in the induction system. Things like a split hose or one that has worked loose from its fitting.
