Active Fuel Managment L99

I believe the L99 does have active fuel managment where it only uses 4 cylinders when your not really pushing hte car to save gas, but when you get on it, it switches to 8 cylinders... correct?

does this only apply in D mode? or does it also apply when in S mode or even M1-6... i ask becuase in D mode, sometimes ill floor it going 40mph, and the car doesnt take off that fast, othertimes i will floor it and it will shoot off like a rocket... how do u really get it from one to the other?

It does have ATF in both D and M. Once you use paddle shifter the ATF does not cut in until you shift back to D. I do notice a hesitation unless you mash the pedal firmly. The best method I have found is to drive in the M mode and when you need the speed tap paddle shift down a gear (or 2) and hit the gas.

Yea its definatly annoying in the sense that sometimes you will floor it and have to wait like 2-3 seconds before you go anywhere in D or even S ...

however i think it is still great because it definatly saves a lot of gas over always using 8 cylinders... and it can be over ridden if you use M mode 1-6

One of two things will probably happen: you'll get used to it, or it will smooth out after break-in.

I wish the car was programed where it didnt kick in when you have it in sports mode. You would think that that would make sense.

i agree.

its kinda an oxymoron that it cuts power in sport mode when cruising.

You can disable it with the Diablo Predator, in addition to much firmer shifts and improved Hp/TQ.

It just plain sucks at low speeds, the car shudders and the exhaust sounds nasty. Explains why the mufflers are so big so you won't hear the rackett produced in the pipes. My buddy put an exhaust on his L99 (AND IT SOUNDS AWFUL WHEN IN 4 CYL MODE) be fore warned, you won't like it. So the question is can it be turned off with a tune?????

I will be installing an SLP LM II exhaust this weekend, if I cant tolerate the AFM I will get a tune to get rid of it.

muffler sounds

Been telling everyone this for weeks. Put headers on L-99 & had to take them off because of noise.

I can't believe they were so liberal with it coming on. I would think it would have to be in D and in cruise control too. Any other time it should be off.

I have shortie headers, and just had my mufflers chopped off 2 days ago. I do not mind the sound at all. Sure, it sounds a little wierd at times when in V4 mode, but not bad.

And AFM does come on even when your in manual mode. I didn't think it did, until yesterday I was in a high gear, going low speeds, and sure enough, it did come on.

I believe you can customize the AFM with a tune to make it only come on at certain speeds, ie 60+
