New guy questions

Picked up #1080 a week ago and have a few questions that I hope some of you could help out with.

Did these cars come with a Z/28 specific owners manual??

How soon should brakes be burnished? Is this something that needs to done asap to avoid damaging the brakes or can I put a couple hundred miles on first?

Thanks for the help gang.

BTW, this thing is AMAZING!!! I wish I could DD it year round!!!

The Owner's manual has Z/28 specific sections and or paragraphs which include the break in procedures. In short until you hit 1500 miles keep it below 80 mph and 4k rpm, fluctuate speed and rpms to seat the rings properly. After 1500 miles then burnish the brakes. There is a street procedure done first and then a track procedure. Many people believe the burnishing procedure has a typo regarding the number of times needed 0 to 60 to 0 to complete the process. The manual also covers fluid changes for track day as well as camber caster setup for optimal handling. Welcome to the club!

All Z/28 specific docs here http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=323419

Don't worry about the brakes until you plan on tracking the car then be sure to get the correct burnishing procedure.

I must say that even for street driving the brakes really suck until the burninshing procedure is performed. When my car was brand new, I had a few "oh crap" moments before the brakes were properly burnished. Sorry, no specific Z/28 manual besides the track document. We still get a "Camaro" owners manual.

I am fairly new hear as well, I am sure its been stated but Im just looking for solid clarification on the brake burnishing process. The manual says 0-60-0 with out breaking the tires loose and without activating ABS 5 times (over 10 minutes). But I have seen others say 5 times is in correct and that its 50 times (over a certain period of time ?). Is this true? and also I am a So Cal local, does anyone know where you can perform this process legally? I just passed the 1200 mile mark and people seem to say the brake burnishing really does make a difference....feel like its something I need to consider doing.

5 is probably not enough and 50 is overkill...I would suggest trying 15-20 reps from my experience. Just make sure you are aggressive during the stops. Follow the cooling procedure after the aggressive stops
