2012 LT won't go into higher gear
I have a 2012 Camaro LT. I have a problem going into a higher gear. Not sure exactly which gear, as it is an automatic.
If I am driving at a good speed, say 30-50 on the highway, and I stomp on the gas pretty firmly, not necessarily flooring it, there is no response. The RPMs stay the same, but otherwise no response. It's like it just won't go into the gear. This started after I drove over and backed out of concrete barrier in a parking lot with my left front tire. Chevy saw some scratches underneath, but nothing that would cause the symptoms I am seeing, which they were unable to reproduce. Probably partially my fault for not telling them exactly how to reproduce the symptom, but I'm thinking they should have caught it. Obviously something is wrong, and I'm worried about the overall health of the car. It doesn't seem as sharp as it was. I am planning on using the paddle shifters to try to isolate if it is a specific gear, but I haven't gotten to it yet, and I'm afraid of pushing it. Planning on taking it in after the first of the year. Hopefully this rings a bell with someone. Last edited by outtheblue; 12-27-2015 at 08:00 PM. |

What you mean is the car won't go into a "lower" gear when you accelerate. What is your rpm at when you try to "stomp" the gas? How big was that concrete barrier?

Does it shift normally at other times? Just normal driving can you feel it upshift and downshift or just is it only when you floor it while cruising?

RPM was not quite 3000 when I tested it. The concrete barrier was maybe 4-5 inches high. Slightly taller than a standard concrete parking block, but not graded. The area I entered however, was 1-3 inches lower than street level. I guess there were trees inside these wonderful rectangular structures at one point.
It shifts normally at other times. I haven't tried to gradually bring it up to >70 mph, for instance, to see if it will get there. I think it will. Not sure how much beyond that. I have been driving locally the last 2 weeks. I can definitely still feel it's power when cruising, though maybe it feels a little "loose". But yes, it happens when flooring it, or when really stepping on the gas. Last edited by outtheblue; 12-29-2015 at 12:37 AM. |

If there is no increase in rpm's then the engine is not seeing your gas peddle input. Its not a tranny issue as it doesn't know you want to go faster!
