Hi Guys,
I need a lesson from the experts. Even that I own a '11 5.0 GT that has been a dependable and good performing muscle car. I have a stronger respect for Corvettes and Camaros, since the 1LE, ZL1 & the late incredible Z28 came out. Even that my car has a very modified aftermarket suspension, I was able to distinguish on the great handling of the stock 1LE and the strong powertrain of the ZL1 after I test drive both of them. Almost made the move for the 1LE, but my wife steeped in that She wanted instead that now we get an automatic transmission sport car for her to enjoy it (my 5.0 is std. transm.), not available in the 1LE , and neither had the $ for the ZL1. I have been waiting for the 6th. gen. Camaro SS hopefully an automatic transmission 1LE to come out, but I have been discouraged to read about the new LT1 & A8 issues in the new Corvette and Z06 that you can read on the forums or in the magazines like C&D and MT. So I turned back toward the trusted ZL1, and almost got me a beautifull '14 ZL1 automatic, the only thing that keep me from buying it, was that the Houston Chevy dealer wanted to pay very low for my trade in, below kbb, and NADA market values even that my GT is well maintained and has very low milleage with many upgrades, but keep my drivetrain stock to keep my warranty (a garage queen weekend driver).I was really surprised that they did not had that ZL1 as certified, it just had 14000 miles. Their answer: because it had an aftermarket CAI, I ask them if that affected the powertrain warranty and they answered, that no problem. I'm still curious about their comments. Now I'm again on steep one. Probably this will give me a chance to read about the reviews of the new Camaro that is next week, and to see the experience of new owners with the new doubtfull stingray powertrain. It is better to sell my car on my own, and decide if I go for the new SS or stay with the absolutely trusted actual ZL1 Camaro. What would you do? ![]() Enjoy your rides!! |

You will always get more for your car if you sell it yourself and that is what I would do. If you can do it get the ZL1. I am on my 3rd one and it is a great car. I would skip the SS even if I had to pay payments a year or two more just because the ZL1 is worth it. The mag ride and the HP of the car are what sold me. I think in the long run you would be a lot happier with the Z.Good luck and if you get one post up some pics.

Well since your in a ZL1 forum I'm sure you'll get everyone saying get the ZL1.
Here's my take. The LSA is a rock solid engine with proven performance and mod adders. The ZL1 can be taken to 800-1000 hp without skipping a beat. The powertrain is almost unbreakable. The car can be a great track car, drag car or weekend cruiser all at the same time. The mag ride, supercharger and robust drivetrain make this car and incredible deal. I know there might be a chance that GM will make a 2016-2017 ZL1 but I highly doubt it will be as robust as our 5th Gen ZL1's. IMHO

My old adage remains: Shop Around. It may or may not be a good deal, but shop and compare for yourself. You could be missing out on a better deal, car, or set of options that you may want.
I agree with you, in that the ZL and the 1LE are incredible machines that are commanding respect from their automotive peers. The sixth gen is promising even more intense performance, but of course it will be more expensive.

I ordered my first one [2013] and I took the car to andy at ADM.When it left there it had 711rwhp. Then a young guy here where I live wanted the car real bad and he made me a offer I could not refuse so I sold it to him. I bought a 2015 Z/28 and then I found another 2013 ZL1 at a very good price so I bought it. I had a chance to sell the ZL1 and make a few nickels so I sold it. Then I sold the Z/28 and bought the 15 ZL1 I have now. I really like it with the recaro seats and this is the first one I have had that has the nav.The 15 model to me seems alot nicer for some reason than the 13's and I guess it is because of the colored hud and the seats. But all in all they are awesome cars no matter which year you have or get.

Yea, color hud, color dic, and the touch screen radio really enhance the interior of the Camaros

OP, the ZL1 will most likely will hold its value better then the new SS which wil become common fast. So lightly used 2014-15 (Less than 5K miles) ZL1s are not hard to find and will cost about the same as a fully loaded SS. For sure the SS will drop its value the moment you drive it off the lot much more than a used ZL1 will. So right away the ZL1 is the smarter deal.
As for speed, well the SS will run a track about like a 1LE and about like a ZL1 in the 1/4. But I bet an auto ZL1 wil beat the SS in the 1/4 and any ZL1 is a bit faster then a 1LE on a track. And if you want to mod your ZL1 and it's an auto it will not cost all that much to go 10s with a ZL1. Or keep going and buid a beast. The engine can hold more power, the drive train is almost indestructable, and the ZL1 wil aways be rarer than an SS. And to me the ZL1 is a better looking car. A good plan could be buy a ZL1 now, and a few years from now the CA6 ZL1s will start hitting the used market. The SS advantages I see are a nicer interior, a few extra electronic goodies, and better gas mileage. But make my ZL1 a manual.

I just switched from a '15 1LE to a '15 ZL1 and it was bittersweet handing my keys to the 1LE over, until I drove the ZL1... WOW!!! I love the GEN1 looks of the GEN 5 too. I originally told my dealership I wanted the first 2017 (50th anniversary) ZL1 that they get in. Then a friend took a picture of a GEN 6 Camaro and told me to cover the headlights with my thumbs and asked me what it looked like... I said it looked like the new mustang... So you see what I'm driving. But, honestly get what you like. I will say that I'm absolutely blown away by how awesome this car is. Let us know what you decide.
