2013 RS 3 inch Exhaust conversion recommendations?
Hey forum, recently I've been interested in converting my 2.5 in exhaust from my 5th Gen but i am currently into running into issues for my research.
Right now im running Catless American Racing Headers which which happen to have a diameter of 2.5 inches, so i am for sure going to have to get a coupling for that but, i also have a Resonated X-pipe that has the same diameter of 2.5 inches as well. I've been searching online and had no luck finding a Resonated x-pipe that is sold as 3 inches so will i have to cut those pipes off and weld on 3in pipes? I feel like it would be pretty dumb to go from 2.5in to 3in back to 2.5in and then back again to 3in. Also what do you guys recommend for the conversion? if you have a 3 inch set up can you share / link me the stuff you had purchased so i can have a wider range of options. |

Do you have boost?
If no, you'll lose power. Fluid laminar flow is super important, and exhaust gas is no exception. The V6 cannot cope with 3" dual exhaust properly. Why do you want a 3" exhaust? The cabin drone will be immense if you drive highway a lot. Edit: If you have parts of the stock exhaust, they're actually 2.25". The ARH Catless downpipes are actually 2.5" and are nice (I have a pair) but from where the stock H pipe is back is all 2.25". Maybe start there?

He's running a supercharger on higher boost I believe. I actually tried a 3" exhaust at one point and yeah it sounded cool but I went back to a 2.5" exhaust and it was significantly improved driving-wise. More power, better gas mileage, less drone. Maybe I feel it more because I'm on a manual, I know more than one person here has had an automatic and went with 3". I just wouldn't. An SS doesn't even have a significant power difference until like 700 or 800hp 2.5" vs 3". It's just more money. If you really want more volume get the MACE cams. Like I said, start with a full 2.5" stainless exhaust and go from there, maybe add an axle back like Magnaflow, MRT, Corsa, Borla. There are plenty of options that are more than palatable. But a 300hp V6 cannot utilize a 3" dual exhaust properly. A single 3" exhaust pipe can support ~330hp.

He has Overkill's Stage 3. Dude's getting 500+ hp. He needs the extra flow to push that much power. Unless you're pushing a ton more air than what the car is designed for (which would only come from high boost supercharge or twin turbos) then you'll lose power going up to 3" pipes. You won't be pushing enough air to keep the air flow laminar and it will cause backpressure.
