ZL1 vs. Hellcat Challenger

Side by side start freeway speed. Stayed very close. Closer than I expected. Final separation was less than a car length when I had to back off for traffic. My ZL1 is stock except for a cai. I was pleasantly surprised.

400lbs heavier.
60mm less rubber in back.
Poorer weight distribution.

The Hellcat actually carries the same amount of weight on its back as the ZL1 but 400lbs more on the front because of its front-biased weight distribution. With narrower tires out back and no additional weight on them, traction is bound to suffer during high torque.

I lined up against one last year and lost but not that bad a 10.75 to my 10.92. It will be a different outcome next time.

Last time I was at the track I saw a bone stock Hellcat running 11.80's consistently with a grandpa behind the wheel. With slicks they can/do run 10's easily.

I think it was closer because we were already going 70 when we lined up. I could tell the hellcat was a stick car because each time he shifted I would gain a little ground back. I had my ZL1 in Drive the whole time lol. I think I would have been closer if he didn't get a good jump on me because when I dropped the hammer, my traction control kicked (broke traction a little when the trans down shifted). I had to back off the throttle just a hair to get it to shut off, then floored it again. Funny thing is I almost bought one, but went Camaro because my Chevy dealer was willing to make a deal on my Z and the robbers...I mean Dodge dealers wanted to mark up the hellcat by 10 grand! I imagine that a pulley and some tuning make it pretty close.

Leave this crap for the drag strip of track....

A freeway is not the place to be racing anything...too many unknowns variables on a public street.

In October (cool day) I was at the track with my car and saw a Charger Hellcat (auto) run a best of 11.20's 100% stock. He brought another set of wheels with drag radials on it and went 10.80's. trap speed all day long was around 124-126. Even a ZL1 hero run would not have touched it. They are heavier, but they have the ability to put the power down and are making more power than a ZL1. I'm not saying what you said didn't happen, but all things being equal it shouldnt be that close. Trap speed alone is much higher.

yep... hero runs. No go to the track and tell me what they run consistantly... not 11.5's. Just saying...

Like I stated above... apples to apples, ZL1 loses every time. I'm a Chevy guy here... not some Dodge troll. Just telling it like it is.

Hero run or not, 11.5 is no joke. The point is, the ZL1 is capable of doing it. On the other hand, the Hellcat is capable of doing it consistently. With a conservative 707hp rating, it better be able to outperform a 580hp machine on the 1/4 mile.
