Oil pan alignment question

So getting ready for a cam swap and reading up on the alignment urgency of the oil pan. I understand the purpose of proper alignment for the transmission and it causing a pan failure if not done right. However in my situation I swapped for a 4l80 and decided not to run the inspection plate (my choice don't waste your time trying to talk me into getting one, I'll live with whatever failure comes if any). So my question is pan alignment AS critical since it doesn't bolt up to the bell housing?
