6k for a cam install, stall converter, and dyno tune

I was quoted 6k for a cam install, dyno tune, and stall converter. Couldn't believe it was that much for an L99 vs a ls3 which runs 2500. Any other places I should try and see what their costs would be? Really want to cam my car but for 6k I might as well do a supercharger. Thanks!!!

Not sure what a reasonable price is for a cam install, but I know that typically with a L99 cam install, as long as it isn't a AFM cam, they replace the AFM parts which adds to the cost.

That's about right. Most L99 prices are depending on the cam choice. You can cheap out and just swap the cam for a mild one allowing you to keep VVT and DoD and the stock converter without a lifter swap, but that's really a silly idea since you are opening up the engine anyway.

$1000 - Since you include a T/C in your list for a good one by itself.
$400 - DoD deletion kit (lifters, etc.). I recommed to leave VVT and get a tuner that understands it. Do NOT convert the L99 to an LS3 or you spend more in that conversion and may lose potential power gains.
$800 - Cam + Springs + pushrods + gasket kit
$100 - Cam Phase Limiter
$1000 - labor for install of cam
$300 - labor for T/C
$50 - fluids
$500 - tune

Headers? w/ or w/out cats?
Oil Pump?

I'd say if you add in headers, and the oil pump you'd be nearer 5k, but your labor in your area may be higher. Not sure if I missed anything.

Should have went with the manual! Thanks guy just didn't want to get taken advantage of! I guess it's just headers, dyno tune, and full exhaust until later on in life when I get a c6 z06 for a steal

So headers were in the cost?

6k is alittle high. IMO
Give or take the location your in but I personally would never quote someone that much. I know shops around here are quoting for m6 cars $1100 cam installed and $1400 drive out after tuned I'd shop around unless you have he money. $1000 labor is by the book it can be done for much less.

I'd ask for an itemized quote, but that is a tad high. To do it right, though, will be in the 4500+ range

Well with an l99 with any decent sized can you have to get a stall converter(yank 3200 is $1200), the heads have to come off(from what I was told, so more labor), night fury cam, gaskets, and retainers(800 bucks), dyno tune(500 bucks), dod delete (500 bucks) but I just don't see how that amounts to 3 grand in labor!!! But again I don't know much on the mechanical side. I wouldn't mind driving my car to a good shop if it will reduce the costs!!!! (Btw I was quoted this by cbi street cars in St. Louis and they are the only shop in Missouri I'd trust with my baby

Night fury means vvt delete also. Don't forget chain and timing gear, and new head hardware.
Labor is going to take an honest 20-25 man hours for all that work. Ls3 is just the cam and most shops charge 10-12 hours labor just for that. Heads n transmission and afm/dod delete I could see being another 10 hours easy.

There is a night fury vvt cam. You are looking at upwards around 5k most shops. Come down to Texas and can hook you up with a guy for around ~3k parts and labor

Would he also tune it? And how reputable! I don't want a 10,000 dollar engine to blow up

For that price you might as well install a supercharger.
