Can someone please explain the Hurst Shifter to me

I have never driven a manual so i don't know anything about them, but i was reading on the short throw shifter and how alot of people really wanted them. I do no know what they are, or what they do, etc, and would like some information thanks guys.

In a nutshell, they make the distance you move the lever from gear to gear "shorter," smoother, and cleaner. It makes for faster shifts with fewer or no missed gears.

The Hurst short throw shifter I installed on my 1999 Firehawk had a slightly shorter throw, but took slightly more pressure to shift between gears. I thought it was harder to put in reverse, and was generally not that big of an improvement. It did sit lower in relation to the console. Maybe a comfort issue for some people.

The 2005 GTO had a nicer shifter than the Firehawk, but the whole shifter (tranmisssion) bounced up and down a lot on rough roads, or under load, which I did not like.

I like the 2010 Camaro shifter pretty well, and does not bounce like the GTO does, but does seem to have a longer throw. I would still like to have had a plain round ball, just because I grew up with them. I may have to look into changing it, or trying someones Hurst when they come out. I won't buy without trying it first.

One important item is it is not smoother then the OE shifter. And there takes some getting used to it. For me there are times I hit the gear but don't get that perceivable,"click" knowing it's in. It is in, you just don't know it until I'm off the pedal. I don't have any noise, just some shake from the handle. It is actually easier to get reverse then the OE. I wish you could use the OE knob with the hurst handle, I like a larger knob then the little ball provided. Overall it's an awesome upgrade.

Had to say it...

The Hurst is NOT easier to get into gear but far better than stock and chances you will not miss a gear with Hurst.

After a few weeks or a couple hunderd miles, will be like riding a bicycle.
