Well - no offense - sounds dumb to me, but to each his own.

Keep all the stuff coming off, as otherwise you will destroy the Z/28's intrinsic value - whats a collectible without the bits and pieces (427+ all other OEM pieces coming off) that MAKES it collectible.

I wonder how many of us original owners will still be posting in 20 years?? (hint-I WILL be). About then we should see prices getting pretty serious. How much are those 69 1969 ZL1's worth?

And with no more Chevy built 427's in Camaro's (or Vette's for that matter) plus dwindling #'s through the years due to wrecks or all of the excessive mods that will hurt collectibility... When 9 years comes around in 2025 (end of warranty); i'll think about using the methods described by Hib on the corvette action centers LS7's article to fix any potential life threatening LS7 issues.Otherwise...I'm just staying bone stock.Think of all the fun we'll have as we destroy those self driving eco-weiner cars in the years to come...

If you just had to: here's an idea that you could still use your block with, mind you it'll set you back 35 large..I considered this for my '09 Z06.

Its a LS7 with a LS9 supercharger..

Brian Thomson has melded the LS7 with the LS9 blower, developing basically a crate engine package-including a pre-programmed E67 controller-that delivers around 770 hp and 840 lb-ft of torque on pump gas.

Supercharged-LS7-engine-build - Brian Thompson - Thompson Automotive - Ligenfelter

Handful of theft recovery Z/28s out there. Could do one with an LS9/LSA setup. No worries about value and the car would be a rebuilt title. SS or ZL1 interior, SS brakes. Sounds like fun.

This is the engine in the article I referenced (see pasted in below); again expect engine cost installed to be $35K. Not exactly throw away money. Then again perhaps someone can hit the lottery.

Mark has been working with Brian Thompson at Thompson Automotive in Wixom, Michigan, for his last few engine builds. For “Mayhem,” his silver 1967 Camaro, the LS7/LS9 hybrid combo was tweaked. They added CNC-ported heads and a new cam that moved the torque band up. Since the car was traction-limited by the tire size, the idea was to keep the same max torque and instead increase power through a higher engine speed to help acceleration without overpowering the tires. That engine was dyno tested at 877 flywheel horsepower and 820 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the “arms race,” Mark felt that even more power was necessary for his next build.

He could pull the factory LS7 out and just swap in a new crate LS9 right?

Mark Steilow of course used the best internals. I mean Oliver rods alone are like $1600. Just make me wonder what it would have ran at the ring with the LS9
