drive shaft/heat shield

So, I have noise that occurs only in reverse, like something is hitting something else under the front right side. Did a bunch of searches here, and noticed others have the issue as well. Someone mentioned might be the drive shaft hitting the heat shield (or vice versa). So the husband took it in today and mentioned the noise and the possiblity of the driveshaft/heat shield. Sure enough, they replicated it and took a bunch of pics.

They also called GM engineering and said they are aware of the issue and trying to find a fix... The dealer said they could take a mallet and bend it back or whatever. Told the husband Hell No! I want to know what GM recommends.

So anyone else had this fixed or can shed more light on the issue. Also is this something that is going to cause more issues if not fixed asap?

Thanks in advance!

timely post. I have noticed this noise from the front when backing up with the wheel turned. It has happened 3 times in the 4 months I owned the car. But if it is a driveshaft/heatshield contact, why does the noise seem to come from the front? Good to know GM is aware of this issue. I am not letting it bother me since doesn't happen often and I will get it fixed when GM has figured it out.

Maybe FFRCobra, you should still report it to your dealer to add to the list that's if you didn't already...

I will heed your advise and report this issue when I go to the dealer soon. I have small cat-hairline crack in my windshield but no chip mark that could have caused it, so dealer is gonna look/determine if it is a factory defect.
