McLeod Clutches- Whats your Experience?
Hey guys,
I wanted to start a thread about McLeod clutches and hear some real-world feedback from everyone running them — what’s worked, what hasn’t, and what you’d recommend for different setups. I’m running a McLeod RXT Twin Disc w/ Steel Flywheel in my 2010 Camaro SS (cammed, 478rwhp). It’s rated for 1,000hp, and so far, it’s held up great — even at the drag strip. The pedal feel is solid, and once it warms up, it’s nice and smooth. Cold, it can be a little grabby or chatter slightly, but way less than other clutches I’ve used. I probably could’ve gone with the RST, but I planned to spray the car (just haven’t gotten around to the nitrous yet). Since we’re a McLeod dealer, I get a lot of questions about which clutch to go with. Some people have issues — sometimes it’s setup, install, or adjustment related — and others have had them work perfectly. So I figured I’d ask here: Which McLeod are you running? How does it drive — daily or track? Any setup or install headaches? Anything you’d do differently next time? Drop your feedback below. The more info we share, the easier it is for others to pick the right setup. If you have a Shop, I welcome your experience as well. Thanks All, - Jason

I've had 2 RST's, on both of them the pedal effort was higher than advertised.
Other than that, great product. STAY AWAY FROM SPEC CLUTCH lol.

I've had a mcleod twin disk, mantic twin disk and spec 3+ single disk on a 13 ss with a supercharger dynod 610 at wheel. By far, i have had the best success with spec. I've done a couple track days and a couple dragstrip days with no issues on the spec. I also dd about 5k a year and it drives like stock clutch with great holding power.
Mcleod had bad vibration at 1400 -1800 (cruising speed) from day 1 with mcleod stating it was transmission. Stock clutch back in and no issue, mcleod back in and issue again. They never saw the clutch back but said it wasn't clutch. Mantic lasted about 5k and the disks warped on the center hub creating a wobble effect which would use up all gap to disengage. They would not quote me a price for replacements (out of warranty) without a diagnostic at my expense. I thought like most that a twin disk was needed, spec3+ has proved me wrong (at my power range) |

I had a Mcleod single disk put in when I had the 416 in the vert built. It has performed well and is very similar to a stock feel. The 416 is probably somewhere around 500whp.
