Camming without heads?

Just got my headers and tune this week. Im potentially looking at getting the car cammed next but have heard from alot of people its best to do cam and heads together. Thoughts?

What cams would you guys recommend that would be safe without getting new heads? I dd the car and dont push it too hard, will be taking it to the track here and there this summer. Not looking for anything crazy.

You don't need heads with a cam. There's also tons of cams that would work for a DD, any cam vendor can hook you up when you tell them what you want which is a safe DD cam. Don't go crazy on lift or lobe ramp rates and your valvetrain will live a long happy life.

I didn't do heads with my cam. I'm happy with it. Sure I could have picked up some more power, but I didn't have the extra dough to do it.

My first cam swap was stock heads. It will do fine.
The percentage of 5th gens out there that are cammed is small, percentage of those with heads is even smaller than that. Keep intake duration in the 22X* range on a daily, it will do better down low and off idle.

Nothing wrong with doing cam only. I'm in the middle of doing cam and converter now. Heads maybe next year if then.

Cam only here. I went crazy with lift 231 236 640' 629'. Im really happy with it but Im a bit nervous too it will explode before I swap lifters when swapping heads next year. But whats more crazy is that it could live like that fine and I could swap in better lifters that would fail. Anything can happen. You just have to bet on what you can support or live with after. If my motor blow up, I will build the engine of my dream; solid roller LL LS7 650HP++ NA.

Do it. You dont need heads with a cam.

BTW if you go too small you might wish you went bigger and the opposite is true too...

IMHO, with larger cams like WHAMMO's, heads is a must, or you start begin to bog things down.

With teeny small cam, flow rate of stock heads suffices.
