2010 timing chain tensioner issue
I have searched the forum and have not found the information I am looking for. I replaced the timing chains, and I have an issue with the primary chain tensioner. When I try to rotate the engine, the tensioner will collapse until there is enough slap that the crank sprocket will jump teeth. If I use a screwdriver to limit the compression of the tensioner, I can turn the engine fine. I know the tensioner runs on oil pressure. Is it possible I got a tensioner with a soft spring.? I believe it should hold the chain tight until oil pressure builds up. Has anyone else ran into this issue?

I took the plunger mechanism apart in the old tensioner and compared to the new tensioner. The plunger on the old tensioner had "detents machined so as the chain wore and the plunger extended; it could not retract to the last position. On the new plunger, the detents were not machined at the same angle and would allow the plunger to fully retract by hand. I ordered a new tensioner from GM to replace the one that came in the kit. I also inspected the other tensioners, and they matched the old ones.
