Exhaust help

I bought the wife a 2015 SS Conv. two years ago next month. Just rolled past 5000 miles. Time to upgrade. Anyone suggest a good shop around the Reno Nevada area to better the current exhaust system. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Automatic or manual? Personally I like www.soloperformance.com with their exhaust systems. If it is a manual though, you may look into Stainless Works Retro Chambered Exhaust, automatics tend to drone so something like Solo's exhaust systems that are guaranteed to not drone are great.

Depends on how much you're willing to spend and exactly how much of the exhaust you want to change. I have the full ARH system which I think has little drone, but you'd be changing everything from the headers back with that and it's pricey.

Also not familiar with Nevada's emissions laws.

Shop shouldn't really matter unless you do custom piping, and even then I've never seen a shop screw up an exhaust system. Many options people will suggest literally just bolt up onto the exhaust.

If you are 100% stock exhaust, you might want to think about muffler deletes. And at the same time, you'll need to decide on a tune or get a Range to turn-off AFM.... once you upgrade your exhaust, the AFM becomes audibly noticeable and sounds like farts in a can... no kidding...

I'm looking for a muffler delete myself.

This as well. If your car is an auto AFM is sure to ruin whatever exhaust set up you have going on. Sounds like those pesky Civic guys Good luck and happy modding!

Word about kooks

My l99 drones. It's not bad but it's there. You may consider "J" pipes and I here get no drone at all but I've never seen them in person. Like they said turn off the Dod. With a tune or it will drive you crazy when it drops cylinders for fuel mileage. J pipes look crazy but I here they work.

Much appreciated

Thanks everyone. I'll check out Real Performance. It's an automatic. I installed a CAI when first purchased which gave a more throaty sound to the engine, but if the wife is not going to drive this car, I'd like to boost the audio of the engine a bit more.

I bought solo xc cat back for my vert. No drone, sounded better after put some miles on it. I did find it a little quiet. After I added headers and high flow cats I now LOVE it. Even the wife likes it now, go figure. I might suggest skip cat back and just add headers and cats to your stock exhaust. My car is auto. PM dynosteve at RDP motorsports gave me great deal with exhaust&tuner with free custom tune. It drives like a different car.

Borla ATAK or Corsa is the way to go. Muffler deletes are nice cheap option but ultimately you will get the itch to get a cat back system. Especially with an L99.

Hey fellow Reno Camaro owners!

My preferred Reno speed shop is Street to Sand Performance on Kietzke near 2nd. Also, lots of folks like Real Performance, too.

If you haven't already, consider joining the Facebook page for the Northern Nevada Camaro Club. Nearly 400 of us Northern Nevadans there.

Hey TM,

I have pretty much the same setup you're wanting to do, here's my experience.

For convertibles, there are very very few off the shelf cat backs or axle backs for CONVERTIBLES. Be careful because unless it specifically states it's for a convertible, the last connection point to the mufflers won't fit. There's an extra brace on the convertible the coupes don't have. It'll take a custom bend to get a packaged system to fit.

What I ended up doing was going custom 2.5" off-road X-pipes through, to Flowmaster 40's, with 4" tips. The tips sound big, but are the same size on a stock 2011 (not sure what the 2014's are).

I have an L99 and AFM delete, with a K&N intake. Car is very deep and smooth, but there is a slight drone at low RPM. Once you get past 3500ish though it's about as quiet as stock until you shift. I'm waiting to get my headers on next week, tuner and exhaust shops are telling me it might be a touch louder and a higher pitched as the headers typically echo the engine a bit.

Others have joked about killing the drone on highway by driving around in 5th, but it works. Car is quiet as stock at 80mph.

I have the SW retro chambered CatBack.. Absolutely LOVE IT. It has one spot where there's a bit of drone, but it's really easy to work around and I get head turns, thumbs up from kids, and compliments on it all day long.
So glad I went this route. Highly recommended.
