Attn: Vendors, Piston Rings for L99

I am waiting until June to order my Cam because I want HUD. Right now I am doing a lot of reading and research on mods that I will be doing on my new baby. I am going to put a Vortech on it and a cam and I figure I may as well put a set of rings in because I would like to run the charger about 10 and when I take it to the track I would like to take it to 16 or 17. I know the first thing to go will be the rings (hopefully).
I spent this past weekend researching rings and I read that the Europeans and Japanese are using plasma or gas nitrided rings and they are working great.
Is anyone out there going to be making these rings for the L99 and if not what else do you have or recommend, with all these bolt on chargers there is going to definitely be a market for replacement rings. thanks

No need to worry about rings unless your going to replace pistons with Forged.

You should also consider a complete fuel system for anything above 10 PSI boost and RACE FUEL to protect your Pistons.

Pump Gas can only take so much pressure then you get detonation which destroys even the best parts.

Ted.

I will set you up with Headers a cold air kit and a tune that will knock your socks off

Then I will set you up with a supercharger and a tune.

You can have over 520 RWHP on Pump Gas Daily Driver.

Ted.

Thanks Ted. Let me tell you what I have so far. ARH long tube headers and either a Corsa or Borla cat back, that will give me 50. I like the Vortech because its more linear, at 6psi that will give me a little over 200, and I will push that to 9 or 10, so at 6 that will give me 650 at the fly, that's with a tune. Minus 22% because its an auto brings me to 507, add the extra 4 psi, what will that give me about 580? Than I am going with a comp cam "XFI 263PHR14, which will give me some of that low end torque that I didn't get from the Vortech, however I don't know how much hp I will get out of the cam Comp wont say. So even without figuring in the cam I have you beat by 60, right? I just wish I knew what the cam would give me.

By the way I live in the country so all my driving is winding back roads plus interstate. I do 50 to 60 back roads minus deer stops and open it right up on the interstate. Its fun trans am and Indy all in one trip. 2 stop signs and a red light for 50 miles.

The Headers and exhaust will give you 25, the cold air kit is good for 6 and the tune is good for 4, for a total of 35 how's that for a reality check

Vortech is advertising 150 RWHP at 8 PSI total 520 RWHP.

I have to get my hands on a Vortech system to see what they can really do, I expect theyre set up is VERY conservative.

Feel free to give me a call. If you want to run 16-17 psi you will need alittle more than just rings. Im not far from you at all. Feel free to give me a call or stop by the shop and we can go over a few things. We have done a bunch of these set ups.

The headers are good for 30 and then 20 on a tune I know because I saw the dyno on the site. Also the Vortex V3 at 6psi got 203 and the guy's car they used is on the site and it was a L99 that dyno is also on the site, if you want I will find them

And how do you get 520 when the L99 is only rated 400 at the fly

FIRST we must separate Flywheel Numbers from Rear Wheel numbers.

I talk in Rear Wheel Numbers because that is what we can measure accurately and to the ground.

520 RWHP on an L99 should be about 624 Flywheel Horsepower.

I can't speak for what others advertise but I can tell you what we see here on my Dyno Stock is 335 RWHP, Headers. cold air kit and tune was 370 RWHP.

ET was 12.47 MPH was 112, 60 ft. was 1.89.

Ted.
